"Together we can achieve more." 💚

During our visit to Colombia, we had the privilege of meeting Clarena Martinez; a 3rd-generation coffee grower and cooperative member.

From protecting local ecosystems to empowering women and youth in the Atanque community, Clarena tells us what fair trade means to the ANEI community.

You can find Colombian beans in our Better Day and Impact blends ❤️☕️

Trade Aid began over 52 years ago as a grassroots movement driven by volunteer activism. We were built by passionate people determined to create tangible, real-world change.

Today, that legacy continues. Our volunteers educate New Zealand consumers about the power of their spending, unpack and pick stock, meticulously label products, champion advocacy initiatives, and govern our entire movement.

To all our volunteers, past and present: thank you for your incredible years of service and your dedication to fair trade. We wouldn't be here without you.

Our team has been busy visiting our sugar, cocoa, and coffee fair trading partners across South America! 🌎

Here’s a sneak peek of their time with Cooperativa Manduvirá Ltda., the producers behind our organic, fair trade golden sugar. ✨

Big thanks to the Manduvirá team for your incredible hospitality! We’re already counting down the days until we can visit again. ❤️

We’ll be sharing plenty more photos of our travels once the team is back home, so keep your eyes peeled! 👀

‼️ HELP US BUILD A BETTER MODERN SLAVERY BILL ‼️

We’re SO excited to see a Modern Slavery Bill pass its first reading, but we owe it to the farmers, makers, and workers, to advocate for making this Bill strong as possible.

The current draft Bill is a great start, but it lacks the teeth needed to create real change. We’re pushing for mandatory duediligence, lower reporting thresholds, an independent commissioner, and more meaningful penalties, to ensure this Bill is more than just a tick box exercise for big businesses.

Will you stand with us?
1️⃣ Swipe to learn about our four key proposals.
2️⃣ Scan the QR code or visit tradeaid.org.nz/build-a-better-bill
3️⃣ Sign the submission by 28th May to show your support.

Your voice is the missing piece. Let’s build a better Bill, together. ✊

We think our coffee packaging is due an upgrade. The challenge is getting the balance right - keeping beans fresh, reducing environmental impact, and keeping the price fair.

Before we get too deep into the decision making process, we want to know what you value most.

Fair trade is a collective effort, but today on International Women’s Day, we’re specifically celebrating the progress made toward gender equity.

While the Trade Aid family is diverse, we’re proud to be a movement where women’s voices have always been key. From our partner producer groups worldwide to our leadership here in Aotearoa, we know that when women have equitable opportunities, the whole community wins.

At Trade Aid, we don’t just talk about equity and equality – we action it.

✨ 3 out of 5 members of our Trade Aid New Zealand Committee are women.
✨ 4 out of 7 of our Directors are women.
✨ 3 out of 4 of our Management Leaders are women.
✨ Over half of our total Trade Aid HQ team (8 out of 14) are women.

Cheers to the fair traders and the change makers! ☕🧡

Whakanuitia ngā rā o mua, kia waihangatia te ao o āpōpō.
(Respecting the past, building the future).

Te Tiriti o Waitangi is the foundation of our shared home.

Today, we're taking the opportunity to listen to the history, learn, and look toward a fair future for everyone. ❤️

Wow, what a day. 🥹

Greg Fleming and Camilla Belich officially lodged the Modern Slavery Bill at Parliament today, and we’re feeling pretty emotional over here. This is a massive, historic moment for New Zealand, and it’s been a long time coming.

A few reasons why this is a huge deal:

1. No more "luck of the draw" to put a stop to forced labour:
They used the “Rule of 61” to skip the usual parliamentary lottery (the biscuit tin) and fast-tracked this Bill straight to a first reading. It’s the first time this has ever been done.

2. The ultimate team-up:
It’s super rare to see National and Labour join forces like this, but Greg and Camilla made it happen. As it turns out, basic human rights are something everyone can get behind.

3. You did this:
To everyone who signed the petitions, shared the posts, and kept up the pressure - this is your win. Parliament heard you loud and clear.

Trade Aid has been banging the "people over profit" drum for over 50 years now. It’s so encouraging to see MP's finally stepping up to make transparency and accountability the law.

Huge thanks to everyone who’s been on this journey with us.
We’re one big step closer to making forced labour a thing of the past. ✊

The Bill will have its first reading on the 10th of February - we'll be watching closely.
