Hopefully this answers all your questions!
How to sew:
✂️ The tape is rows of shirring elastic held together with a fine mesh.
✂️ Sew between each row of elastic - you are sewing the mesh
✂️ Universal needle, sew all thread (in bobbin & needle), stitch length approx 2.5mm, standard tension.
✂️ Cut required length, + additonal 10cm. Tape stretches approx twice its length. The extra give you something to hold while stretching and sewing.
✂️ Mark sections of elastic tape and fabric. Line up tape, stretch and sew.
✂️ The first row of stitching requires the most attention to ensure it lines up with where you want it. More pinning before sewing will help with this.
✂️ After stitching the first row, stop and check that all is looking good
✂️ Continue stitching between each row of shirring elastic - you can stitch every row, or every second row. Personal preference.
✂️ At the end of each row, pivot and turn to start the next row.
✂️ Finishing the ends of the tape - here we sewed it into the sleeve seam, overlocked, then stitched seam allowance flat. You could also try other methods such as encasing ends in a small fabric tab if that works for your project.
✂️Lightly steam after sewing - it will contract by approx 8-10% and will further define the gathers/shirring.

*What can it be used for:
✂️ shirring cuffs, waist bands and other details. Anywhere you might use traditional shirring

*What does it feel like? Will it aggravate me?
✂️ The mesh naturally gives a little more bulk than traditional shirring techniques. But in our opinion only a little more bulk. The white is slightly softer than the black colour.
✂️ Here we've used it as a cuff and when wearing it, I don't notice it any more than I would traditional shirring - but we know this can be personal preference
✂️ As for will it aggravate you - we can't answer this on behalf of others, we recommend you conduct your own tests in this regard. We sell it by the metre, so you don't need to purchase a lot to give it a test run.

TAL Tie Bow Blouse … modified by swapping out the cuff with shirring. I’ve used our Shirring Elastic Tape (if you want more details on that check out the previous reel, plus the next reel after this one 😉). Fabric - I used a new spring linen - Meadow Bloom.

Another make added to our rack of sample garments that you can try on, inspect and generally have a good nose over when you visit the store. This is the Assembly Line Anorak - a great make for shoulder seasons! Made up in our Stretch Cotton Drill, which at 230gsm is a fab weight for lighter weight coats/jackets like this. 🙌
