We wish you all a fabulous Labour Weekend! ☀️

We are taking Sunday and Monday off as well, so we’ll be back in the hub on Tuesday, as usual 8.30 to 3. 🥰

Now also serving our super popular cacao frappé again.

Monday evening at 5.30 we have Olivia from Rose from Root here for a free talk about Womb Wisdom.

“The wisdom held within our womb offers a pathway to self connection, purpose, and belonging—allowing us to evolve authentically and gracefully into the elders that this world needs.”

Reserve your spot on her website:

Check out our stunning new travel cups from Raglan’s Westcoast Stoneware.

They sit beautifully alongside our much loved Pottery for The Planet range.

All handmade, everyone is a work of art.

Elevate your take-away coffee experience with a cup you love.

It brings us joy when people come in with their beautiful cup for us to pour a delicious, organic Kokako coffee into.

A great coffee deserves to be drunk out of a proper cup instead of plastic lined paper.

Did you know that New Zealanders send about 295 million single use cups to landfill every year?

Many people believe using single use cups is no big deal because they think the cups are compostable or recyclable. Sadly, because of the plastic lining they cannot be recycled and are the cause of a lot of contamination of recyclable materials. As for the compostable claim, the sad reality is that most of them end up in landfill.

Please help us to change that and let’s make BYO CUP the norm.

Single-use cup free in Matakana. ✨

Thank you “Getting To Zero” for featuring Hub Matakana! 🥰

When we throw something away, it always goes somewhere.

There is no such place as “away”.

There’s a lot of greenwashing around so-called “compostable” coffee cups. Although words such as eco, bio and compostable can make us feel better about using them, most of these cups cannot simply be put into a home compost bin. They require specific commercial composting facilities and collection systems in order to break down as intended. In a home compost the outer paper layer eventually decomposes, but the plastic liner does not and because of this paper-plastic composition they can’t be put into paper recycling either. The reality is that most single use cups end up in landfill.

There is something about drinking coffee from a proper cup that elevates the whole experience and it’s a much healthier option too. Studies have found that the plastic liners in single use cups release tens of thousands of microplastics when filled with hot liquid. Another reason to avoid SUCs altogether.

Thank you Leach Studio Ceramics for the beautiful cups you made for us.
