You may have seen the OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100 label on our linen, but do you know what it means?

It’s an independent textile certification involving testing against a wide range of regulated and potentially harmful substances.

Our certification is Product Class I, the strictest of the four STANDARD 100 product classes, with requirements designed for products used by babies and young children.

For something like bed linen, which spends so much time directly against our skin, we think that’s worth knowing. 🤍

We’ve explained a little more about what the certification means in today’s post, because understanding what goes into the textiles we bring into our homes is just as important as choosing something beautiful.

One of my favourite things is seeing Aspen & Fern linen in your homes. 🤍

No two bedrooms ever look the same. Some are beautifully styled, some are cosy and layered, some have dogs curled up on the bed and others have children making themselves at home.

And that’s exactly how it should be.

Looking for a little weekend baking inspiration?

I've just added my old-fashioned boiled fruit cake recipe to The Journal.

It's moist, packed with dried fruit and warm spices, and wonderfully uncomplicated. There's no overnight soaking, everything starts in one saucepan, and you don't need to be too particular about the cake tin either.

And if you discover halfway through that you've run out of brown sugar, as I did, raw sugar works just fine.

A lovely one to make this weekend, enjoy with a cup of tea and savour a slow moment.

What does pre-washed linen actually mean?

When you see “pre-washed” used to describe linen bedding, it simply means the linen has been through a washing process during production before it reaches your home.

For Aspen & Fern French flax linen, pre-washing happens after our bedding has been sewn. It helps soften the newly made linen and contributes to the relaxed, comfortable feel of the finished fabric.

And linen continues to soften with washing and use over time, one of the characteristics we love most about it.
