The British Pavements R series Mack. One of a few they ran. This cool looking unit ran around Christchurch carting aggregate etc and carted pelts for a while on a contract up to Picton I believe it was. It was rebuilt after an accident on that run and came back in this guise but it’s had the older British Pavements signage placed on the door.

The completed Wilson Transport T Line International. I decided to leave it as as livestock truck instead of loading it with wool. Seemed more apt with the bull on the air deflector.

The completed Upper Clutha Transport F12. The second one in the south and the first one bought by UCT and possibly the only F12 they bought new ? Most companies down south were buying the sleeper cab F10 version, Andrews, West Otago, Tulloch, Millers Flat, Cromwell Transport but UCT bought an F12 and put a 4 axle trailer behind it, so it stood out a bit more than usual in the eyes of a young truck enthusiast.

3 general builds for August this time. 3 more classics scattered throughout the South Island . A British Pavements R Series Mack from Christchurch as pictured by someone from the Big Rig Fotos team. Upper Clutha Transport’s first F12 Volvo ,photographed here by Dave Carr in Dunedin. This was the first F12 I’d ever seen and the first axle trailer I’d ever seen also. A Holgate and Anderson F10 Volvo. Holgate and Anderson were loyal Volvo operators up until they finished up in 2006. G88 ,F10 and FL10 were the mainstays of the company. This particular version carted fruit from its Millers Flat base and I’d imagine general rural work when not in fruit season. The real thing still lives on and still in pink with a contractor down in Makarewa near Invercargill. It’s a well loved truck with its current owner and family.

Kings Rural Transport from the Deep South run a mixed fleet and like most fleets these days , they as well run a Scania. This smart 620 V8 is aptly named Thunder Rolls and covers the Island carting livestock. It was built for the operators 50th birthday who has been a long time loyal servant of the King group.

Another birthday surprise. An R620 V8 Scania that is now living its second life up in Cust, a small settlement inland from Christchurch. Originally it was new to Sinclair Transport in Winton.

The Southern Transport Co Mack Superliner has been built again and for the 7th time but this time as it originally was. A tractor unit pulling a 4 axle bailey bridge trailer . It was later lengthened to a drawbar unit. One of the countries more well known trucks, the real thing has been painted back into these iconic colours.

A well loved EC ERF and still in use in the Deep South. There’s quite a few of these ERF’s still operating around the south. And may they long continue to operate in the south.
