Too cold and windy to go outside today so good progress is being made on my cross stitch. I think this one and another small project I have planned will be entered in next year's Hawke's Bay Show.

Thankfully, my StitchNZ order has just arrived so I can carry on with my cross stitch.

I first started stitching in 1988 or 89 with a kit I bought from a sale bin at Lincraft, Highpoint, Melbourne.

When I moved back to Lower Hutt, I joined the embroidery group of the Hutt Art Society where another member was an embroidery teacher so she corrected my technique which is why the back is so neat.

This project is small so it doesn't feel like it's taking forever.

I've added an extra inch to the cuffs and doubled the leg length to get knee highs. I believe that if you are going to make fancy pants socks, you may as well go big.

I have 5 more patterns bookmarked and will have my first go at colourwork because of this beautiful book.

Some days I don't feel like knitting and yesterday was one of those days. Having bought some Frank Lloyd Wright inspired cross stitch patterns from Made In Graphic on Etsy, I was keen to make a start on a small one.

This was about 3 hours of work while listening to podcasts and I can't do much more until my DMC Crafts order arrives from Debbie Fulton

Oh yes!

I knew this was going to be pretty and knitting them knee high makes them even better. Since making my yellow knee highs, I've decided I far prefer that length.

I'm undecided if I'll do the toes in the contrast colour and I do have a turquoise in my stash that will work nicely. It will depend on yarn chicken too as getting a pair of knee highs from 100 grams is pushing my luck.

My reward for finishing 4 pairs of Christmas presents is a pair for myself. Once I saw a pic of the Channel Island socks on social media, I knew the Coral Rowan Sock that has been in my stash for about 3 years would be ideal for the project.
Rowan Sock comes in solid and gradient colours. I loved this coral shade and paid more than my usual outlay for sock yarn but it's so pretty.
Channel Island is from the 2026 published 'The Sock Obsession'.

HOTN, A UFO that has been in the pile for ages. 1940s Patons and Baldwins stockings pattern with feather and fan lace on the fronts. Yarn is wool/angora 2 ply on 2.25mm needles.
