Here’s a throwback to one of my favourite stones Aaron has found over the years — a magnificent Nelson Serpentine laced with copper. What an absolute stunner! It’s no wonder everything we carved from this stone sold so quickly.

We can only hope we’re lucky enough to find another beauty like this one someday.🤞

Two toki, carved from the same unusually coloured pink & grey Nelson Jasper. 💗🩶

Jasper is generally known as an opaque stone, but this particular Nelson Jasper has something extra special about it — it actually has a couple of millimetres of translucency. ✨

So, what gives this Jasper its beautiful pink and grey colouring?

Jasper gets its incredible range of colours from tiny amounts of other minerals trapped within the stone. In this case, the soft pink tones are caused by iron-rich minerals, while the grey comes from other mineral inclusions and variations within the stone. It’s these natural mineral combinations that give Jasper its distinctive colours, patterns and character. ❤️

Jasper is well known for being one of those stones where every piece can look completely different. Reds, yellows, greens, browns, greys and even pinks can all occur, depending on the minerals present and the geological history of the stone.

While pink Jasper does occur, this particular soft pink and grey combination in Nelson Jasper is not something we come across every day — and the added translucency makes this stone even more unusual.
