🌸Monday Mentions: Tahunanui Pharmacy 🌸

This week’s Monday Mention goes to the lovely team at Tahunanui Pharmacy.

I really appreciate the personal service I always get there. I popped in recently and had a really helpful chat with the pharmacist, who took the time to listen, gave me some excellent advice and pointed me towards some really interesting information. I was genuinely grateful, and it made a real difference.

Yes, I know there are pharmacies offering free prescriptions these days, and that's a fantastic option when you're watching the pennies. But sometimes you really can't beat good old-fashioned personal service. The $5 spent on my prescription felt like a very worthwhile investment when it came with such thoughtful advice and care. ❤️

So this is just a little reminder to support our local pharmacies where you can. Mix it up, use the free options when they suit you, but when you have the opportunity, supporting a local business makes a difference.

And don't forget to have a peek at the gift sections in your local pharmacies too. Lots of them stock lovely local products and handmade goodies, so it's another great way to support local. 💚

Thanks, Tahunanui Pharmacy, for being one of those local businesses where a little personal service goes a long way. 😊

✨ Monday Mentions ✨

This week we'd love to shine a light on one of our long-standing Pretty Crafty Market family members, Rachel from Rose & Luna.

If you've visited our market over the years, there's a good chance you've admired Rachel's beautiful beads and jewellery, or had a chat with her about one of her many creative projects. Sadly, she's currently recovering from a broken leg, so we thought now would be the perfect time to send her a little extra love.

Rachel's kindness extends far beyond her lovely shop. She is also the founder of the The Sparkle Project, a wonderful initiative that gives unwanted beads and broken jewellery a new lease of life. Donated pieces are carefully taken apart, transformed into something new, and shared with charities, community groups and people who could do with a little extra sparkle, both here in New Zealand and even overseas.

Wishing you a smooth recovery, Rachel. We can't wait to see you back doing what you love soon. 💜

Monday Mentions 💚

Every now and then I like to share something I come across that I think may be useful or of interest to our local community. I have no connection with Passport2Fun other than being a Tahuna resident, but I thought it was a lovely initiative that encourages people to get out and explore what Tahuna/ Stoke has to offer while supporting local businesses.

If you're looking for something to do over the winter months, it could be worth a look. There are discounts and special offers available at participating businesses including Pyers Thai Therapy Natureland Zoo, Nelson Classic Car Museum and more plus if you complete five or more Passport2Fun activities by 31 August, you'll also go in the draw to win prizes worth over $2,000.

You can find the participating businesses, offers, maps and all the details below.

Monday Mention!

This week I wanted to give a shout out to the wonderful Able Gardeners.

Able Gardeners offers basic gardening services, such as lawn mowing, weeding, and hedge trimming. Operating under a social enterprise model, the company is dedicated to providing meaningful employment for people with disabilities.

If you need a helping hand with your garden, give them a shout! 🙂

Monday Mention time!!

This week I’d love to give a shout out to Grassroots Recycling.

They are a fantastic local organisation collecting items that are not accepted in standard kerbside recycling.

This includes drink cartons (such as Tetra Pak-style cartons like almond milk and juice cartons) and plastic bottle lids (as long as they are clean and marked 2 or 5), which many people either don’t realise can still be recycled through specialist schemes.

There are collection points across the area — see their page for the nearest one to you.

It’s a simple way to make a real difference just by saving a few items at home and dropping them off when you can.

A special mention to Jemima, who runs everything — she’s doing a brilliant job.

Well worth a look if you haven’t come across them before 🌱

Monday Mention 💛

This week I wanted to give a little shout out to Maz from Pip & Peanut, a talented maker and fellow upcycler.

Maz creates beautiful, practical pieces from repurposed fabrics, giving new life to materials that might otherwise be forgotten. I recently entered a little competition she ran on her page to name one of her beautiful peg aprons and won, so I ended up with a custom piece made from an old skirt I loved but never wore.
It’s now something I use all the time. (You may have seen me wearing it at the last Pretty Crafty Market as it doubles up very nicely as a money belt!)

It’s always so lovely to connect with people who share a passion for thoughtful making, and Maz is a perfect example of that.

If you haven’t come across Pip & Peanut before, do have a look at her page and show a little support. It really does make a difference!💛
