The hardworking trio of Steve McHattie, Chippie Andrews and Hux Contracting have filled in 'the moat' at the rear of Books&Co, , and the Railway Hotel Otaki 🏆🏆🏆

A puncture in the tractor's tyre put a spanner in the works, but Otaki Tyre Repairs were on the job! 💨 It reminded us a bit of The Little Yellow Digger 🔧🚜

Steve's motivation is the successful Kāpiti Burgers n Bikes fundraiser events he's been holding in collaboration with the Railway Hotel Otaki 🏍

We are so grateful for this work being done. Our courier driver is rapt, too 📮😁

What a treat to hear a posse of poets at St Peters Village Hall, Paekākāriki, on Sunday 🙏
These four friends introduced each other and themselves by way of a short poem, then took it in turns to read a longer work. We, the audience, shared tea from a community-hall-size teapot and politely nibbled on biscuits.

From left to right (in group image):
Airini Beautrais shared an autobiographical poem from her latest collection, Salt Quilt. [The cover image is of a quilt made by Lesley Stead of Paige's Book Gallery's aunt in 1930!] Airini was celebrating 20 years of being published 👏
Maria McMillan read wry revolutionary words from her forthcoming (March 2027) collection 💪
Helen Lehndorf shared from her latest (May) collection, The Bruise Palette, which she worked on during her In Other Words, Ōtaki residency last year! 📚🌊
Helen Heath read musings on nature vs technology from her older award-winning collections. 🦉☎

We have copies of Salt Quilt and The Bruise Palette here at the bookshop!!

Oscar (15) came in with his dad, Alf, this afternoon.
Alf, an exponent of the MenzShed, Waikanae, reckons a warm shop with friendly staff - and books, of course - is just the ticket.
Oscar didn't appear too concerned about any of it.
