While most cats might think everyday is International Cat Day; today actually is.

And on this day of the cat; sending big congratulations to our local Curly Cat (and his team at Tales from the Farm Publications) on winning a Purple Dragonfly Award for his latest book Curly Cat The Acrobat.

New eeBoo jigsaw puzzles arrived today - some fab designs in amongst them.

I thought these two would appeal to those who would like to a swap these chilly winter days for the European summer.

In Artists in Amsterdam; cyclists, boaters, and painters enjoy the magic of Amsterdam, the home of Rembrandt. And Paris in Autumn offers a offers a whirlwind tour of the city of lights. And, all the puzzles have an artists playlist QR code; so you can immerse yourself in the music the artist listens to while they work, while you puzzle.

It's definitely jigsaw season - the link to the puzzles page on our website is in the comments.

We pride ourselves on our book recommendations and suggestions - there is nothing better than putting the perfect book into the hands of readers.

The other thing we are great at recommending is lunch; especially the Bacon & Mushroom Pasta from our friends at Cafe 51. And the coffee, scones, slices & other meals are all delicious too.

Book Rec - I am thoroughly enjoying Mr Sidhu's Post Office, although I am very nervous for him, having watched Mr Bates vs the Post Office ...

Delighted to meet Waiau-based author Marina Shearer-deVries on Friday when she dropped into the shop to deliver copies of her new novel, The Golden Lotus Necklace.

If you enjoy dual-timeline fiction (and have fond memories of the TV series Tenko), this could be the perfect read for you.

Set between 1942 Indonesia, where Marina's Dutch family was interned in Japanese POW camps, and the present day; the novel traces her own family's remarkable story.

I'm only a few chapters in, but I'm already thoroughly enjoying it and am looking forward to seeing how the story unfolds.

Thrilled to have The Golden Lotus Necklace on our shelves (& online) - pop in and take a look!.

πŸ† It takes a lot to sniff out a win over Punter the Hunter as our bestselling book each month - but in July, Stevie (& his humans The Bookshop Detectives) did just that, with Murder & Mojitos. πŸŽ‰

Crime fiction has been a hit, with some fantastic New Zealand titles alongside the latest page-turners from our favourites, TM Logan and Lisa Jewell. Everyone is loving The Calamity Club, and you really can't go wrong with a farm sticker book! πŸšœπŸ„

Funnily enough, quite a few of the books that should have made it into this photo are currently out of stock - but don't worry: they'll be back on our shelves soon. πŸ“šβœ¨

Winter evenings are made for crafting ... and we've had a wonderful delivery of new craft books to inspire your next project!

From needle-felting the cutest little animals (the donkey is very cute 🫏) to crochet projects made from just one skein, there's something for every maker. We've also got a fantastic sock pattern book - with the added bonus of patterns using 4-ply rather than sock yarn.

Looking for something slow and mindful? How about the meditative art of Sashiko, the traditional Japanese stitching technique. Or, if you'd like to build a creative habit, our Sketch a Day card deck is full of prompts to keep you drawing all year round.

And if you're a sucker for beautiful paper .... prepare to fall in love. The Animals Collection from Paper Paper Paper is filled with gorgeous bookmarks, stickers, tags and tracing paper that are almost too lovely to use.

Pop in and have a browse over the weekend - your next winter project might be waiting for you! β„οΈπŸ§ΆπŸ“š

Did you read The Plant Hunter by T.L. Mogford? If you enjoyed that fascinating historical adventure about the quest to collect rare and exotic plants for England's grand stately gardens, then The Saffron Thief is one to add to your reading list.

This time we're in 1666; England's saffron trade was booming - the spice was worth an incredible Β£4 a pound - rivalling gold! Add the Great Fire of London, and a colourful cast of rogues and scoundrels, and a heist - it is sounding like the perfect historical adventure.

Even better, it's the first book in a new series, so there's more to look forward to.

I have a feeling this is going to be a fabulous read. Has anyone else added this one to their TBR?

Current read - the newly released debut thriller, Every Lake, by Christchurch author Adam Perry.

This one has got me hooked, right from the get go - it is very difficult to put down. I'm intrigued because it is set in a fictional Otago lake town.

When Alice was fifteen, her father killed Mia Heywood in their lakefront cottage before vanishing into the trees. At least that's what the locals think happened.

More than a decade later, Alice has lost her job, she's going through an expensive divorce and she desperately needs to sell the boarded-up 'murder house'. But before that, she has to find out what really happened.

A book about small town lies - where everyone is a suspect, right until the end ...
