✨ Celebrating New Zealand's ceramic community.

We're delighted to once again support the Estuary Arts Members Merit Awards, an exhibition that celebrates the creativity, skill and passion of ceramic artists from across the community.

This year, Decopot is proud to sponsor a $500 Abbots Brushable Glazes prize, helping recognise and encourage both emerging and established makers.

Thank you to the team at Estuary Arts for the incredible work you do in fostering creativity and providing opportunities for artists to share their work.

Good luck to everyone entering—we're looking forward to seeing your creations!

Want to discover glaze combinations fast?

A grid plate is one of the fastest ways to discover new glaze combinations - and you don't even have to make test tiles!

Instead of testing one combination at a time, a single grid plate lets you:
✨ Test multiple glazes in one firing.
✨ See how 2, 3, and even 4 glazes interact as they overlap.
✨ Compare combinations side-by-side to quickly spot your favourites.
✨ Build a library of reliable glaze combinations you can recreate on your pottery.

Getting started is easy. Simply choose 4–7 glazes to use as your base glazes (columns), 4–7 glazes to use as your top glazes (rows), grab a bisque-fired plate, and follow the step-by-step guide in this carousel.

Hint: We used 5 base glazes and 5 top glazes for this 30cm dinner plate.

You never know what hidden gems you'll uncover. Some of our favourite glaze combinations started life as an unexpected square on a grid plate.

Which glazes are you planning to test first?

Ever wondered what's actually in your jar of Abbots brushable glaze? 👀

Hint: it's not just glaze. It's a precise blend of dry ingredients suspended in something called Universal Medium — and it's the reason your glaze stays brushable, layers like a dream, and turns from a thick gel into a smooth fluid with a good shake.

We broke down exactly what it is (and the sneaky ways you can use it to fix stiff glaze, control your layers, and beat the "draggy brush" problem) in our latest blog.

The kind of subtle detail that makes you take a second look. 👀❄

Here's how achieved this classy finish on Primo Pro WMSB - Warm Mid-fire Spotted Buff clay (one of her faves, and you can see why with the iron speckle melting through).

Glazes used: Abbots Spotted Ivory, Abbots Sage

1) Abbots Spotted Ivory x 2 coats as a horizontal band around the middle of the piece (base glaze)
2) Abbots Sage x 2 thick coats (top glaze)
3) Suze fires to Cone 7

Truly part of the Decopot/ Abbots family, Suze has incredible instincts with glaze layering and we're always so happy to see the effects she uncovers and masters 🥰
