Board Game Spotlight: THIEF'S MARKET
First of all, this game is brilliant. Second of all, the rest of the review:
The conceit is that you are all playing thieves who have just returned from a successful heist and the game is about getting the best deal when the loot is split up between everybody.
The game starts with a big pile of dice in the middle. The dice roll different coloured gems which are used to employ more thieves or buy more items, all of each influencing your dice-rolling or treasure-bargaining power.
The first player looks at the pile of dice and takes AS MANY OF THEM AS THEY WANT. Each subsequent player can then either do the same OR steal all but one of a previous player's dice. This creates a cool social gambling game where the goal is to take as many dice as you think you can get away with, lest future players find your haul too tempting to ignore and you lose them before you can spend them!
The game slowly gets more and more complicated (complementary) as each player collects more and more lackeys and magic items to help them, and at the end of the game the player with the most spending power wins!
If you're looking for a combined luck-pushing, social engineering, drafting, engine building game, THIS is the new standard that they'll be compared to!
