Last night, we had the privilege of attending the official launch of Charitable Reuse Aotearoa at Parliament in Wellington.

The evening included a special address from the Minister for the Environment, highlighting the important role charitable reuse organisations and op shops play across Aotearoa.

This network brings the sector together with a shared mission, to reduce waste, give pre-loved items a new purpose, support local communities, and create lasting social and environmental impact.

A powerful evening of connection, collaboration, and strengthening the future of charitable reuse in Aotearoa.

We're measured by the decisions we make, not only for today's performance, but for the legacy we leave behind ☺️

One decision that deserves greater attention is what happens to our surplus assets.

💚 Every office relocation, refurbishment, technology refresh, or organizational restructure creates furniture, equipment, and resources often written off as waste. Yet much of it remains perfectly functional.

This isn't an operational issue.

The reality is that our economy cannot sustain a model where valuable resources are used once and discarded. The environmental cost is significant, but so is the missed opportunity to create social value from assets that already exist.
