THERE IS NO FIREWORKS BAN IN QUEENSTOWN.
We take fire prevention very seriously, but lot of people have seen this and thought that fireworks are banned everywhere in Queenstown. They are banned in the red zone only, check our red zone map out when you come down to purchase your fireworks and you’ll know where it is safe to light your fireworks!! 💥🎆
Fire and Emergency NZ has banned the use of fireworks in all Otago prohibited fire zones, which already have a year-round fire ban, effective 1 November 2022.
Fire and Emergency NZ can prohibit activities under Section 52 of the Fire and Emergency New Zealand Act 2017.
This prohibition is targeted at areas where the risk of fire starting and spreading is highest. The prohibition has no end date and is intended to remain in force in the areas specified below so long as they remain part of the Otago prohibited fire zone, which includes:
• Mount Iron
• Albert Town recreation reserve
• Queenstown Red Zone
• S**g Point
• Bucklands Crossing
• Ruby Island
• Stevensons Island
• Mou Waho
• Mou Tapu
• Pig Island / Mātau
