None are big enough to eat, if you want them for this purpose you will have to grow them out yourself. These young lads are 3-4 months old. None have crowed yet. The coronation Sussex and Buff leghorn are purebreds, they might make nice breeders for someone, not friendly but not overly flighty. Very respectful of electric poultry netting.
The crossbred hatched from a leghorn egg, it’s anyone’s guess who the father may be. Fair warning - he’s a nuisance. He doesn’t stay put and absolutely will come into the house if you leave a door open, then promptly panic and when he gets found. We are not overly hopeful he will find a home, but had to try!

X2 available. Must go together. 1 year old and finishing up their moult, not currently laying. The blue girl lays a blue egg, black girl lays a cream coloured egg. Not flighty, happy to stay behind poultry netting. They are 1/4 Barred rock, 1/4 Araucana, 1/2 leghorn.

Purebred 4 month old Gold duckwing Araucana pullet. We bought this young lass as an egg with intentions to breed more of these. Unfortunately she was the lone survivor of her brood so we have no one to put in a breeding pen with her. We will not sell her on her own, but are happy to find a similar aged pullet for her to move out with. She will lay a pretty Blue egg in the spring time.

X4 available. These ladies are between 2-3 years old. They are big and heavy girls. They are not friendly, but also not flighty. Easy to catch with a little bit of food on the ground. Happy to do a deal if you want all 4. Still have a couple of good laying years left in them. Not currently laying, but they usually start up again at the end of June.

This handsome lad is a purebred brown leghorn. 6 months old, respectful in every way. He stays behind poultry netting, keeps his distance, and isn’t flighty. Not for the pot - we have plenty of people who would like him for that already. Flick us a message if you want to offer him a flock of his own to care for. We are keeping his brother, so he is excess here.

We are looking for suitable homes for some (yet to hatch) swedish ducklings. Thanks to the ladies who decided to lay in Mumma ducks nest long after she started brooding - we are not sure exactly when they will hatch, but expect it'll be 1 a day for the next week or so. At present there are 12 eggs in the incubator, 1 has hatched and 1 has just begun to pip. They must go in a minimum of pairs to make hand raising them easier. Please get in touch if you'd be interested in rearing your own unsexed ducklings this winter.

For a very limited time, I am offering a breeding trio of young meat birds. Must be picked up before 12 noon, this Sunday. Thereafter they will no longer be available. These originated from Tīrau Hill Poultry’s meat bird project many generations back. There are 2 pullets and a cockerel. 5 months old, raised free range and hand fed twice daily. Extremely friendly. Their offspring will produce a large and tender roast for your family to enjoy. Any and all questions are welcomed.

Educational post!

While sorting through our “pullets” this morning, I came across the perfect example of why we do not sell our Sussex poultry before the age of 12 weeks - when their adult feathers begin to peek through.

Pictured below is a 3 month old cockerel. From a distance, there is absolutely nothing to suggest this bird is male. Small/pale comb and wattles, dainty little legs, low held posture. This bird does not strut, stand tall, engage in fights, or behave in any way rooster.

This bird is perfectly healthy, growing at the same rate as the other pullets, has a solid appetite and a clean bum.

BUT those pointy saddle feathers do not lie. This is 100% a male. He has been moved to our bachelor pen to continue growing. We have managed to catch more than a handful of roosters this season before they were mistakenly sold as pullets with this method of sexing.

In the past, we sexed birds based off the size and shape of their comb at a young age. We very quickly realised this was inaccurate when buyers began returning roosters who were labeled as pullets on the day of sale. Since we switched to checking feathers, we have had 0 unwanted roosters returned to us. We do our best to maintain this success rate!

At 3 months old, these pretty girls are seeking a new coop to call home. Ideally they would go together to minimise the stress of relocation. They are used to free ranging and being hand fed 3x daily. Very docile, not scared of much.
