Amy started the Bait Shop in 2015, over the years it has grown and now has expanded to offer a range of Plants (indoor and outdoor), Seedlings and Veggies from her garden. We have even added Fishing Rod hire for those of you who forget to bring your Fishing Rod on

holiday with you. Kim has a log splitter available for hire with him as the operator and is able to come to you to split all your fire wood. He also offers boxes of Firewood or Kindling, perfect for that camping trip to Totoranui or where ever your holiday takes you. If you need to stock up the wood shed for those chilly winter night, we also offer trailer loads of Firewood delivered at reasonable prices. 🎣❄️ Winter Fishing is Well Worth It! ❄️🎣

Don't pack away the rods just because it's winter. There are still plenty of fish to be caught around Golden Bay, and Amy's Bait Shop & More is open daily for all your fishing needs!

🐟 Top Winter Target Species

🔸 Gurnard
Golden Bay is famous for its gurnard fishing. Drift over sandy or muddy bottoms using flasher rigs with pilchard bait, or try bounced soft baits.

🔸 Flounder
Found in shallow water and tidal flats throughout winter. A fantastic table fish that's delicious baked whole in butter.

🔸 Blue Cod & Kahawai
Available year-round around reef structures, drop-offs, and the outer edges of the bay.

🔸 Surfcasting
The expansive coastlines offer great opportunities for kahawai and the occasional snapper.

💡 Winter Fishing Tip:
Late morning through to early afternoon often produces the best bites in shallow water as the sun warms the surface.

The weather’s looking absolutely on point, and the bait freezers are always stocked up ready for go 🐟❄️ You know the drill — ready to roll whenever you are.

There’s still plenty of snapper hanging around the bay until the water temp drops… basically just loitering out there like they own the place 🐟

Perfect timing for a fish, a feed, or just an excuse to get out on the water.
