Today feels extra special as I get to spend Mother’s Day weekend in the shop with both my mum and my daughter 🤍

Three generations, side by side, doing what we love.

Mother’s Day can bring a mix of emotions for so many.

Today we’re thinking of and celebrating all mums and mother figures, those hoping and waiting to become mums, those carrying their babies in their hearts, those missing their own mums, and the women who nurture, love and care for others every day.

She's the magic behind so much of what makes Nest & Nook feel like Nest & Nook - and I'm so lucky to have her, in life and right here in the store. 🤍

🐰 Easter weekend is here

We’re open Saturday (normal hours), then closed Good Friday & Easter Monday - so if you’re popping in, Saturday’s the day.

Term 1 wrapped up (just like that) and Sophie got her full licence this week 🥺 so she’s heading to Wellington with me + the kids while Steve & Mum look after things in store.

Steve’s been quietly working on his gift wrapping skills… you’ll have to pop in next week and let me know how he did.

No staff Easter photo today (it’s been busy - thank you, truly) so here’s me sneaking in a 5-min floor nap today while Mum holds the fort 😅

Tomorrow is a special (and always tender) day for our family.

It’s the anniversary of our triplets - Alvy, Mabel and Molly 🩵💜🩷

Seven years on, they remain such a special part of our family.

What they gave us, more than anything, was a deep reminder that time is so incredibly precious. And that has shaped so many of the choices we’ve made since - including saying yes to this little shop.

Nest & Nook was built from a place of wanting to create a life filled with more meaning, more connection, and more joy in the everyday.

So tomorrow feels like a quiet moment to pause, remember, celebrate, and hold our little loves close 🤍

After 56 years of letters, they finally met.

My Mum (Raewyn) met her penfriend from the UK for the first time last weekend - after nearly 56 years of writing to each other.

They became penfriends when they were eight years old and have shared life through handwritten letters ever since. Photos tucked into envelopes, family updates, everyday stories.

Even with all the advances in technology, they had never spoken on the phone or by video chat. They kept it to letters.

The even lovelier part is their Mums were penfriends too, writing to each other for 76 years until my Nana passed away nearly two years ago.

Last weekend her penfriend and daughter travelled to New Zealand for the first time and spent the weekend in Napier. We showed them the places Mum has written about for decades, introduced them to the family they’ve heard about for years, and of course brought them into Nest & Nook to give them a few NZ-made gifts.

Her daughter and I were chatting at one point about how incredible the whole thing really is - two ten-year-old girls, our Nanas, starting a friendship that carried through to the next generation.

It was such a special weekend and a beautiful reminder of how something as simple as a letter can turn into a lifelong friendship.

I think I might start sending her daughter a New Zealand Christmas card each year to keep the tradition going!
