Artful Mind is more than an exhibition. It's a collaboration between people living with dementia and artists who have taken the time to listen, connect, and create something deeply personal together.

Through conversations and shared memories, laughter, and quiet moments, each artist has interpreted the life, personality, and experiences of the person they were paired with. The result is a collection that celebrates individuality while offering a glimpse into life beyond their diagnosis.

This is art that honours the person, not the condition.

The wait is finally over! 🎨

Tauranga is bursting with artistic talent, and this weekend, it’s all coming together under one roof at The Tauranga Art Show It’s a feast for the eyes and a massive win for our creative community.

The Incubator is incredibly proud to be representing 30 of our artists at this historic inaugural event and very grateful for the tremendous sponsorship opportunity from the Arts show whānau. Art Shows Across Aotearoa

🏆 About the artist:
A graduate of Elam School of Fine Arts, Trevor Pye developed a unique visual language since the late 1970s that sits at the intersection of sculpture, painting, and object making. His works are held in major national collections including Te Papa and Auckland City Gallery Toi o Tāmaki.

Known for his quiet, deliberate intervention with everyday materials—rough sawn timber, river stones, leather, and bitumen—Pye reveals the inherent poetry in humble forms. This piece is a perfect example of his subtle power.

We are proud our fabulous tenants, Tauranga Chinese Culture and Art Centre, have officially "hatched" from The Incubator and flown the nest to their stunning new premises on Grey Street! 🎉

Their success means we have a gorgeous, light-filled space available at Blacksmith Studios on the main street of The Historic Village.

A new kind of Friday wind-down – coming next week. 🍇🖼️

We're opening our doors for another monthly art gathering on Friday 28 August, and we'd love to see you there.

MEET THE ARTIST: Jennie Holdsworth

We are thrilled to shine a light on resident artist, Jennie Holdsworth , whose debut solo exhibition, Just Bring Yourselves - an Exhibition by Jennie Holdsworth " has captivated the Tauranga community.
Her stunning exhibition ends this Sunday (22 Aug) , and it is nearly sold out! 🎨

Jennie's mixed media works explore the beauty of domestic interiors—chairs, lamps, and familiar spaces—layered with paint and collage to create a sense of warmth and welcome. As she puts it, these pieces ask "who sat there before" or "who it might be waiting for." The work resonates so deeply because it reflects the warmth of a home.

As a Visual Art educator and Elam graduate, Jennie has poured her heart into this stunning collection, and it shows. If you haven't had the chance to experience the quiet beauty of "Just Bring Yourselves," we urge you to visit this week.

🖼️ The People's Gallery – Toi ka Rere: Ōtūmoetai College Junior Art Exhibition – Year 9 and 10 students showcase their work in this sixth-annual collaboration with The Incubator. Come support the next generation of young talent!

🎨 The Incubator Gallery - Just Bring Yourselves by Jennie Holdsworth – This is Jennie's first solo exhibition, and it's a quietly beautiful series of mixed media paintings. Through paint, collage, and layered surfaces, she explores domestic interiors – chairs, vessels, and lamps in warm, muted tones. Her work reflects on warmth, welcome, and the spaces we return to. It's intimate, thoughtful, and absolutely worth seeing in person.

✨ The Incubator drop-in session 10am–3pm:
Jennie is hosting a fun interactive experience! Drop in anytime and make your own mini still life to take home. Using a recycled cardboard frame, collage a bowl of fruit and vessel onto a tabletop – just like the paintings around you. Free, no booking needed, and suitable for all ages. Just bring yourself!

🖼️ New Works Launch at The Artist Window – a wave of fresh creativity with over 40 incredible artists! Painters, sculptors, printmakers, jewellers, and carvers. From contemporary paintings to exquisite bone and pāua jewellery, Māori toi, and handcrafted treasures – something for every eye.
