It's Saturday – let's make it a day of art! 🎨✨

Start your morning at Market and Main Cafe – enjoy brunch or lunch surrounded by Helen English's beautiful exhibition.

Then explore the Village:

🖼️ The People's Gallery – Toi ka Rere: Ōtūmoetai College Junior Art Exhibition – Year 9 and 10 students showcase their work in this sixth-annual collaboration with The Incubator. Come support the next generation of young talent!

🎨 The Incubator Gallery - Just Bring Yourselves by Jennie Holdsworth – This is Jennie's first solo exhibition, and it's a quietly beautiful series of mixed media paintings. Through paint, collage, and layered surfaces, she explores domestic interiors – chairs, vessels, and lamps in warm, muted tones. Her work reflects on warmth, welcome, and the spaces we return to. It's intimate, thoughtful, and absolutely worth seeing in person.

✨ The Incubator drop-in session 10am–3pm:
Jennie is hosting a fun interactive experience! Drop in anytime and make your own mini still life to take home. Using a recycled cardboard frame, collage a bowl of fruit and vessel onto a tabletop – just like the paintings around you. Free, no booking needed, and suitable for all ages. Just bring yourself!

🖼️ New Works Launch at The Artist Window – a wave of fresh creativity with over 40 incredible artists! Painters, sculptors, printmakers, jewellers, and carvers. From contemporary paintings to exquisite bone and pāua jewellery, Māori toi, and handcrafted treasures – something for every eye.

Meet the artist: Bridget Erin 🎨

We caught her at The Artist Window Gallery to talk inspiration, process, and what it feels like to let a piece of your soul go.

Where are you from – and how does that shape your work?
I moved over from Raglan about a year ago, where I was deeply embedded in the art scene – exhibiting, creating, and soaking up the creative energy of a town that lives and breathes inspiration. Raglan is that rare kind of place where nature is always present, and nobody works full time, so there's space to dedicate to your craft.

Tell us about your favourite medium.
I'm a strong drawer, but I also adore colour and texture. Oils are my absolute favourite – they're so buttery and luxurious to work with – though I often turn to acrylics for speed and vibrancy. When I'm in flow, I work fast. If I had a little more peace and quiet, I'd paint oil portraits all day long.

When is your favourite time to create?
I'm definitely a roll-out-of-bed, start-painting-in-my-dressing-gown-with-endless-coffees kind of artist. Many a dressing gown has ended up with paint on the sleeves! I like to get in fast, before the day's jobs distract me.

How do you manage work-life balance as an artist?
I'm a Libran – always searching for balance. I've created a life where I can paint, thanks to property investments, side hustles, and part-time work. It's all a juggling act, but I'm getting better at it.

Describe your ideal working environment.
Peace, space, and nature. I'm currently converting my garage into a studio – a peaceful haven overlooking my garden, with cicada song and the Kaimais in the distance. Eventually I'd love to be part of the Open Studio weekend and welcome people into that space.

💬 Come and meet Bridget in person!
She'll be in the gallery on Friday 24th July 10am to 3pm – pop in, say hello, and experience some of her beautiful work up close.

A local legend behind the lens. 📷

For decades, acclaimed photographer Brian Scantlebury has been capturing the wild and the wondrous – from New Zealand's sweeping landscapes to the far-flung corners of the globe.

His work is quiet, contemplative, and carefully crafted. In a world saturated with video and AI, Brian believes the still image still holds power – space to look, time to imagine, room to lose yourself inside a single frame.

Wildlife, travel, and the natural beauty of Aotearoa sit at the heart of his portfolio. Each image is the result of hours of patience, skill, and a deep respect for his subject.

You can see Brian's work on display now in The Artist Window Gallery, part of The Incubator Creative Hub. Come and experience the his and 40 other artists work from paintings, jewellery, prints cards and sculpture – and take home a piece that lingers long after you've left.

✨ Arlene Foster makes jewellery in her friend's Robyne Dowdalls Toutouwai Studio. Arlene says her own workshop is too messy for visitors. ✨

Her passion for silver is traced back to watching her father pour lead sinkers as a child – mesmerised by the movement of that bright, molten metal. "It wasn't a big stretch to move to silver," she says.

Growing up in Auckland around contemporary New Zealand jewellery, she caught the bug when Fingers Gallery first opened. Summer school at Whanganui Art School followed, then silver casting lessons.

The result? Pieces with soul, shine, and a quiet story behind each one. 💍

Arlene likes shiny things. We think you will too.

Now showing – and available from The Artist Window Gallery, proud to be a part of The Incubator Creative Hub - situated in The Historic Village Tauranga. 🛒
