Sustainable floristry using spagnum moss and compostable bags rather than flower foam.
Flower foam (oasis) is toxic not only to the florist handling the product but also to the environment when is it put in the rubbish.
When I started as a junior florist I had to moss up containers so it’s nice to return back to moss and not use flower foam. Have been using this technique for over a year after a lot of experimenting with different products.

SweetPea & Jasmine started as a flower farm 12 years ago because when I returned from over 10 years in the UK, I really missed all the amazing varieties of flowers that were available to use in floristry.
I spent a year growing all my favourite flowers from seed and developed my flower farm on our property in rural Tauranga.
It is truly rewarding to be able to pick fresh flowers daily for bouquet orders, workshops and weddings.
Even though it is winter it is perfect to get the hardy annuals in the garden and I am boasting my perennial garden with lots of seedlings that will hopefully always give me flowers.
I’m a self taught gardener but after 12 years have found some tricks that help with germinating seeds, have great products to help with soil health and use bioforce for any bug problems.
Feel free to ask any questions relating to growing flowers as I’m always happy to help in anyway. 😊

HI 👋
I’m Shontelle the florist behind SWEETPEA & JASMINE.
This is way out of my comfort zone as I prefer the flowers to be the main focus of my business but feel it’s time to show my face and tell you a little bit about me.

Floristry has been my only career.
Started my training here in Tauranga many many years ago.
Worked in Melbourne for 3 years then ventured to London to have an amazing florist career there for over 10 years.
Highlight of my career was being involved with the London olympics creating the bouquets for the podium winners.
My business has been evolving for 11 years with all the amazing weddings but I also deliver bouquets, have lovely corporate clients and enjoying teaching workshops.
