Mānawatia a Matariki — Happy Māori New Year.

Matariki is a time to reflect on the past and those who have passed on; to celebrate the present with kai and time with our whānau and communities, and to look ahead and plan for the future.

The second whetū (star) of Matariki is Pōhutukawa and is connected to those who have passed on. When Matariki rises in the new year, Māori honour the memories of all the people who have passed, and their spirits are released to become stars. Pōhutukawa encourages us to reflect on the past and to be thankful for those who have contributed to our lives. As such, we join you in remembering our precious pēpi at this special time.
