Hamills Tauranga Salt Fly Saturday.

The Kingfish flats fly fishing season is now under way and we are kicking off the season with Salt Fly Saturday this coming Saturday Nov 29th between 11am-2pm here at Hamills on Cameron road, No437.

We are fortunate to have fly tier extraordinaire Dave Smith with us tying baitfish patterns, Piper patterns and Poppers. He will be here for the whole 3 hours doingfly tying demonstrations.

Also there will be other specials on Saturday, selected flies and fly tying materials, salt fly rods.

Drove to Lake Rotoiti Tuesday night and had a chilly 7 degree sleep in the car before meeting up with my skipper for the day, customer and Anglers club members Chris on his boat at 4.30am for coffee on board before heading out to start fishing at daylight.
Was a rather windy day keeping the temperature quite cool and making things difficult for the electric motor holding us in position over a jigging spot.
Fishing was tough throughout the day and we managed to land one jigging and a couple trolling lures

The reports I’ve been hearing on Rotoiti is the early morning harling produced some better numbers of fish and then deeper trolling as the day went on, jigging was tough around the lake.
Lake Tarawera apparently went off and had a great opening day. Haven’t had a Lake Ōkataina report as yet.

8 more sleeps until the new Trout fishing season starts. The three big lakes in Rotorua will open again October 1st.
If jigging on the lakes is your thing and you need to top up your gear then we have everything you’ll need. Rods,reels, jig rigs, sinkers, 3 way swivels, leader, flies, nets, we have it. Only thing we dont have is the boat.

Monday night just gone we had the Tauranga Anglers Club down here in the shop for their annual September club night and mini trout expo before the new trout fishing season opens. It was a really good night with around 65-70 members/customers here.
We had 4 of our suppliers here plus Eastern Fish and Game, and a local Fly Fishing guide.
