Collective Dreams is a Timaru-based store founded on a love for local creatives. In 2024, Jaclyn recognised the need for a permanent retail space after seeing the physical demands of weekend markets, particularly through winter. She wanted makers to have a place where their work could be discovered every day, not just for a few hours each weekend. After asking local creatives on Facebook if they would support the idea, Collective Dreams opened its doors in April 2024.

The name reflects both the collective of local makers who stock the store and the shared dream of turning creative passions into successful small businesses. Since opening, the store has grown from handwritten systems to barcode technology while maintaining a waiting list of makers eager to join.

Today, Collective Dreams is home to around 30 vendors offering a diverse range of products, including jewellery, candles, pottery, preserves, wall art, refurbished furniture, and other handmade gifts. Each maker brings their own unique style and creativity, creating a shopping experience where every business has the opportunity to shine.

Every dollar earned is reinvested into keeping the store open and providing an accessible retail space for local creatives. Beyond offering a place to sell, Collective Dreams gives talented makers, including those who may not feel confident attending markets, the opportunity to share their work with the community in a welcoming environment.

With plans to one day expand online, the focus remains on helping local makers thrive while continuing to provide a platform for their creativity. If you’re visiting Timaru, I highly recommend stopping in to discover the incredible makers who call Collective Dreams home.
