Industry Announcement
As some of you may be aware, Notions Marketing (the largest craft goods distributor in the US and our main supplier of scrapbooking products from overseas) had a fire that has forced them to shut down operations indefinitely. Our thoughts go out to everyone at Notions, including management, staff and all those who will be affected by this closure. A loss such as this will ripple through the entire crafting community.
As a major distributor, Notions allowed us to order a small amount of items from a vast range of manufacturers, all from the once place, meeting a single minimum order requirement they set. Without them in the picture, accounts will need to be set up and orders will now need to be placed directly with the manufacturers, which will each have their own minimum order requirements of between $400USD to $1000USD. As a small, independant retailer, this is (in many cases) not a financially viable ongoing option for us. Initially, we may only be able to order from 1 manufacturer every 6-8 weeks. We will also need to wait and see how the industry reacts and what (if any) changes are made, or dispensations given for slightly smaller order minimums – however this needs to be balanced with the high costs of having the goods shipped to NZ. Small shipments often have a higher shipping cost ratio.
Finding the new normal will take time and in the interim, there may be gaps in our stock, new items may be slower to arrive in store and we will most likely not be able to get all brands we would normally stock. However we are committed to continuing to provide you with as much product as we can, as the industry works through all the reprocussions of this devastating loss. We appreciate your patience and understanding during this difficult time.
