We have rearranged how we courier our ferns.

We now have an online portal to Aramex and so can easily get the courier to come, pickup from us and have them on a delivery path to you. So we take care of this and just add the courier price to your invoice as well as $20 per carton for us to pack the ferns. This covers the materials, our time and expertise to have them in the best possible condition when they reach you.

So go online, browse our Catalogue and email your shopping list to us so we can confirm availability, invoice you and arrange the courier.

The other alternative, is to organise a road trip to the winter less north and pick up the plants yourself!

The About Us section is now complete. We know some of you wanted to know more. So check it out.

We are daily adding more ferns that we stock. So do check in regularly.

The About Ferns section has been revisited to make easier reading. We hope folk will use this area to keep knowledgeable about ferns.

Cheers

Yes!!! Our website has been completely rewritten by Wes using Wix as the host and website design source.

It is at the original site: www.ferns.kiwi.nz
Please have a good look around it and let Wes know of any improvements needed. If you own several devices (mobile, tablet or laptop) try it on each.

Note: We have many more species to add to the catalogue. It will be an ongoing thing! Still working on the shopping cart. We want buyers to create shopping cart list and then email it to us so we can have conversation. Plants are living things so we have to talk about couriers with them or they can pickup.

Wes is hard at work reconstructing our website using a different provider. The structure is coming together well and we think it will look good.

We want it to showcase our ferns and provide an online shop front. We also intend it to be an on-going source of information about the fascinating life cycle of ferns and the huge variety that is such a big part of New Zealand's natural landscape.

The big task now is adding in all the species that we sell. Planning to complete that within a week so we can launch the new look.

Down in Welly and will deliver these to the revamped Kiwi house today. Cheaper for us to deliver with 4 nights and petrol money than using courier.

Ferns have been busy last 2 months. Planting season and landscapers realising we have species in stock that no one else has!

Our website has been updated to enable you to see the different sizes (and prices) available for each species. Just click on the grey, size-box to view.

We have updated the species currently available and added more pics.

The botanic names of plants have been changing quite frequently over the last 20 years and ferns are no exception.

Plants are grouped and named according to how closely species are related to each other. Many of the changes have occurred as DNA analysis has become common place.

The growing tips of roots are cut off and treated in a lab to extract the DNA from actively growing cells. The DNA is analyzed and compared with that of other species to see how much they have in common. It is a process that is similar to examining DNA in humans to build a picture of their ancestors.

So we have renamed the ferns on the website that have changed. The most authoritative and up to date website for checking the names of native plants, is nzpcn.org.nz which we use.

This is a 2 page pamphlet on using NZ native ferns in the landscaped garden. It is an updated version of a resource prepared by Barbara to use in a professional seminar she held in the fernery at Oratia Native Plant Nursery for Auckland landscapers and plant professionals.
