The Children's Bookshop The Children's Bookshop is an independent specialist children’s bookstore in Wellington.

Established in 1992, The Children's Bookshop is a privately owned independent specialist bookstore dedicated to providing the widest range of children's and young adult literature from New Zealand and around the world. We are passionate about reading and are always willing to share our knowledge with customers. We are experts at matching children with books and get the greatest pleasure at finding reading for children who aren't traditionally readers. In 2011, John and Ruth, the original owners, were presented with the Storylines Betty Gilderdale Award for services to children's literature. The award was established in 1990 to commemorate the work of author Betty Gilderdale and to honour distinguished service to the development of children's literature and literacy. It is administered by the Storylines Children's Literature Charitable Trust. In 2017 John (posthumously) and Ruth were presented with the NZ Book Industry's Lifetime Achievement Award. In 2013 The Children's Bookshop won the North Island Regional Bookshop of the Year award. In 2003 we were named New Zealand's Independent Bookshop of the year, the first time it had been awarded to a specialist bookstore, and were runner-up to Unity Books of Wellington for the same award in 2008.

Exciting news! Claire Mabey, Verb's uber-talented founder, creative force of nature and award-winning author is launching her new book, The Raven's Eye Rebellion, this month! And you're all invited!

Bring your little rebels along for a fun party to celebrate – there will be temp tattoos, party food, exciting readings from very cool kids, and only a couple of boring adult speeches. Claire will be book signing too!

SAFETY ISSUE: correction needed in Play Wild book

The publisher has put out a press release today alerting readers to an error in the book.

'Vegetable Flowers' were included within a list of edible flowers on p.46.

Vegetable flowers from the nightshade family contain toxic glycoalkaloids and should not be eaten.

They encourage people to: 'cross out the words "and vegetables" with a thick marker on page 46.'
