Steve's Fishing Shop Steve is a fishing guru with over fifty years of experience in shore and boat fishing around New Zealand.

In 2020 Steve's Fishing Shop retired from retail after thirty five years to focus on advice and teaching fishing, and selling fishing gifts online. Steve has excellent local knowledge and advice and is available for teaching lessons. Rest in peace and love Steve. It is with great sadness that Steve's Fishing Shop has to share the news that Steve passed away on the 8 of April 2025. Steve was a greatly loved, kind, generous, wonderful human being who lived his life with a passion for fishing, was a great friend to all, and who made a difference to so many people's lives. If you would like to leave a special message on Steve's Tribute Page, that would be much appreciated by Steve's family. A Celebration of Steve's life is being held on Wednesday 16 April at the Miramar Bowling Club at 2 PM ~Steve, you are so loved~

A surprising bonus out enjoying a winter fish on Wellington's South Coast. Anchored up, got a decent burley trail going in 15.4 degrees water. Was hoping to catch some nice Tarakihi. And what do you know ~ five of these nice snapper turned up. Winter fishing can always surprise you, as you never know what you might catch on your next cast. Cheers, Steve🐟

Had a great day out on the water today with my mate Felix from Capital Fishing. We caught and released a good number of snapper keeping only enough to feed our families. The bigger 8kg snapper in top was unfortunately gut hooked and was bleeding from the gills so was a keeper. Got a nice kingie around 10kg too. A great day out!
