Haewai Meadery Haewai Meadery is open afternoons for free tastings and sales with the opportunity for those interested to take pre-arranged garden tours.

HONEY MEAD, once used as a HONEYMOON aphrodisiac for fertility can be enjoyed before and with dinner, after a hard day's work and on any special occasion, and is a nutritious alternative to grape or fruit wines. Nectar collected from New Zealand flowers such as tawari, pohutukawa, and kamahi is mixed with water from a natural spring at the meadery where it is fermented aged and bottled; on Wellington's South Coast. Most HAEWAI MEAD is 14% alcohol and all varieties, which can be sweet or off-dry, have a full-bodied quality and their own distinctive aroma;some are also BIO-GRO CERTIFIED ORGANIC.

Haewai Meadery is now closed for good.
We're not open for business anymore. We opened in 1999 and have now retired.

With longer cooler evenings approaching, Haewai Meadery is open Saturdays and Sundays, from 11am to 6pm, for you to enjoy a variety of honey mead.

Have you come across this beautiful tree?
It's called 'Winter Sweet'; the flowers have a divine scent. It is spectacular as there are no leaves left on it at this time of year and the perfume of the flowers fill the surrounding air.
Take time for a walk on these sunny but short days and spot the Winter flowering trees - so uplifting.
