Seven reasons why we choose essential oils over fragrance.
___
May trigger sensitivities – Some people experience headaches, skin irritation or respiratory discomfort from scented products containing fragrance ingredients, although sensitivities vary from person to person.
No therapeutic aromatherapy benefit – Fragrance oils are designed primarily to create a scent, whereas pure essential oils also contain naturally occurring aromatic compounds studied for their effects on mood and wellbeing.
Complex ingredient blends – The term “fragrance” or “perfume” on an ingredient list can represent a complex blend of many different aroma chemicals, making it difficult for consumers to know exactly what creates the scent.
Do not support the same mind–body connection – While any pleasant scent can evoke memories or emotions, essential oils have been more extensively studied for their effects on our emotional and physical wellbeing including relaxation, sleep and stress.
Often derived from synthetic aroma chemicals – Many fragrance oils are created wholly or partly from synthetic ingredients to achieve consistency, stability and a wider range of scents that don’t naturally exist.
Can overwhelm the senses – Strong synthetic fragrances are designed to linger and project. Many people prefer the softer, more subtle aroma of essential oils, which tends to dissipate more naturally.
Different philosophy of wellbeing – we choose therapeutic-grade essential oils because we believe scent should do more than smell beautiful—it should become part of a meaningful wellbeing ritual with positive emotional and physical benefits.
