In celebration of Samoan Language Week, we are cutting a limited run of made-to-measure Duckbills crafted from beautiful Samoan Tapa cloth.

Each piece is part of a small, meaningful collection honoring Samoan language and culture through design and textile.

For every Duckbill sold, $25 will be donated to This Is Not Your To Carry, helping provide books to refuges, schools and registered organisations across Aotearoa.

These books help make valuable resources more accessible to children and families who may be navigating challenging circumstances, offering support, connection and understanding.

We have been waiting for the right to have another special moment with Tapa. Looking now at preparing the amazing cloth we have on hand and start touching up pieces that need to be made workable. Love it and wear one everyday!

Our Managing Director Simon featured on local Vanuatu news while working with the Sanma Creative Hub at the Sanma Skills Centre, in partnership with the Vanuatu Skills Partnership.

We’ve been working alongside these incredible weavers since 2016, following Cyclone Pam in 2015. Since then, we’re so proud to have supported their work reaching Japan, gaining interest in the US, and being stocked in stores across Australia.

Pandanus is not only beautifully crafted, but incredibly durable—lightweight, strong, and far less prone to splitting than other natural straws.

Simon says it was such a privilege to meet the amazing mamas behind the process and see their new drying system, allowing them to weave all year round. It truly feels like this is just the beginning.

All enquiries are welcome—not just for finished products, as there’s exciting potential to expand into collaborations with other manufacturers.

A proud moment for Simon and an honour to be part of this journey.

A buyer of hats from New Zealand visited mothers today at the Sanma Creative Hub to see and learn how pandanus hats are made.

The women weavers in Sanma Province have reached a major milestone in their work, moving from traditional weaving to an international business, with support from the Australian Government through the Vanuatu Skills Partnership under the Creative Industries program.

Through working together with two local women’s associations, Limambulu and Bosahe, the skilled weavers have been able to turn their craft into a formal business called the Sanma Creative Industry Hub. It operates under the Sanma Skills Center and focuses on developing sustainable livelihoods through handicraft production.

After a 10-year partnership that these women have had with a buyer — Hills Hats company in New Zealand — today the owner and also director of the company is in Luganville visiting the women.
