Last week, the Card Merchant Wellington management team headed up to Auckland for a couple of very full-on days!

Jack, Toni and Kim made the trip north, starting with a visit to the new Card Merchant Outlet and catching up with owners and managers from Card Merchant stores around the country.

We spent the day working through a number of training exercises and team brainstorming sessions, sharing ideas between stores and looking at what we could all be doing better to support our different communities. It was great getting so many people from across Card Merchant together in one place and hearing how different stores approach things.

The following day we attended a retailer day hosted by one of our favourite local distributors, Geek Culture. They supply us with all things Riftbound, Grand Archive and Yu-Gi-Oh!, along with a huge range of accessories and other products you see around the store.

It was another great opportunity to catch up with other store owners from around the country, as well as talk directly with some of the publishers and suppliers behind the games that we and our communities love.

A very busy couple of days, we have plenty of ideas to bring back to our Wellington store.

It was a great Friday night at Card Merchant Wellington last night!

We hosted our first “Anything But a Deck Box” night, and you guys did not disappoint! Tons of people came along with their decks stored in all sorts of things, from stuffed toys and rice cookers to even a loaf of bread. Thanks to everyone who got involved and brought along something creative!

Alongside our normal Friday night events, we also had 20 players join us for our Pokémon League Challenge!

A big shout-out again to everyone and their creative “deck boxes”. We hope you all had a great night, and we hope to see everyone back again soon!

ANYTHING BUT A DECK BOX, THIS FRIDAY!

We announced this in store last Friday, but wanted to give a heads-up to anyone who wasn’t there!

This Friday at Card Merchant Wellington, we’re hosting our first ever Anything But a Deck Box evening!

Friday night is home to our MTG Commander, Riftbound, Lorcana and Pokémon communities, and we’re encouraging everyone coming along to bring their deck in anything except an actual deck box.

We’ve run this before at our Christchurch store and had some absolutely incredible entries. Below are a few of our favourite photos from previous events to give you some inspiration, but we’re hoping the Wellington community can take it to another level and completely blow us out of the water.

Our staff working Friday night will each be keeping an eye out for their favourite creations, with store credit prizes up for grabs for the ones that impress them the most!

The weirder, more creative and more ridiculous, the better.

Come along, have some fun, and show us what you’ve got!

The weekend just gone was absolutely packed with Pokémon action here in store!

Saturday saw the return of our monthly Pokémon Trade Day, with an amazing number of people coming through the doors throughout the day to trade, pick up some new cards, work on their collections, and hang out with the local community.

Then on Sunday, we kept things rolling with our Pokémon World Championships Celebration event! We had 29 players join us for the day, battling it out before Kevin, Leo and Sam eventually came away as our winners in each bracket!

Massive thanks to everyone who joined us across the weekend. Whether you came along to trade, play, collect, or just hang out, it was awesome seeing so many Pokémon fans through the store over the two days.
