For years, it’s been a dream to send a crew from Aramoho-Whanganui Rowing Club to the Henley Royal Regatta — the most prestigious club regatta in the world, held at Henley-on-Thames.
Through hosting UK gap students over the past four years, the seed was planted and given time to grow and develop into a dream and now reality.
Our 4x crew of Nicky Maxim, Bryn Morgan, Jake Newton and Xavier Warren have grown through the program together, earning 20 Maadi medals and 8 National Champs medals over the past 4 years. More importantly, they represent everything our club stands for.
They’ll race the Fawley Challenge Cup (Junior Boys Quad Sculls) — an event many of our UK athletes have competed in, and one where an AWRC athlete (Eli Kuehne) made the final in 2025.
They’re not just going there to compete — they're going there to win.
No NZ club crew has done that at Henley since the 1960s.
The boys are balancing work and in Nicky's case school as well while preparing for this opportunity. All funds raised go directly toward flights and accommodation — the biggest barriers to making this happen.

THIS SUNDAY 2.30pm
Birthday Chaos Draft at the Sett $50

In allegiance with the Cardboard Gods of Chaos, we’re unleashing an extra-special Birthday Event for those brave enough to trust in luck, cardboard, and a little bit of madness.

Each player will:

* Randomly draw 2 boosters from 2 different sets
* Then come together to draft 1 Secrets of Strixhaven booster

That gives every player a total of 5 x 14-card boosters to work with when building their deck.

Deck Construction:
Build a 40+ card deck, including around 16 lands (+/- loaned to you by us for the event) depending on your build.

This one is part draft, part absolute chaos… which sounds exactly like the kind of birthday nonsense we should be celebrating.

$50 per player at 2.30pm this Sunday

They’re disappearing almost as fast as we can touch them, because preorders are already chewing through the pile.

So this is your official warning:
if you’ve been waiting for these mystical little cardboard spell-slingers to appear… now is the time to keep both eyes peeled.

Perfect day? Oh yeah… this is a “load cards, sling spells, repeat” kind of day 😏

We’re currently knee-deep in Core Set 2019, powering through stacks of singles and getting them ready to find their forever homes… but let’s be honest — the real plan is to finish sorting just fast enough to justify jumping into a few cheeky rounds of Commander 👀

Because balance is important:
👉 Work hard
👉 Shuffle harder

So… what are you up to today?
Grinding decks? Brewing something spicy? Or just looking for an excuse to come up and join a pod… 👀

Like untapping lands, drawing cards, and absolutely losing track of time after “just one quick game.” 😏

So if your schedule is looking gloriously empty, grab your decks and head on up to the Sett for a game… or 6.
Kick back, relax, sling some cardboard, and make the most of the extra day the best way possible.

Come play.
Stay awhile.
