Someone once told me who I was supposed to be. Then someone else told me something completely different. Both were sure. Both were wrong.
Here is a truth that took me too long to learn.
People do not see you. They see their version of you. Built from their needs, their insecurities, their idea of who you should be for their comfort.
Your mother has one. Your friends have one. Your coworkers have one. None of them match. None of them are real.
And living to manage every one of those versions is a full-time job with no salary.
So you have a choice. Keep performing. Shrink yourself to fit the picture in their heads. Stay tired from being four different people.
Or put the picture down and live.
The ones who love you will adjust. The ones who only loved the version that served them will leave. Both outcomes are information.
One warning though. This is not a pass to dismiss every hard thing people say. Real feedback from people who know you is a gift. Their projection is not. Learn the difference.
Their idea of you is their creation. Your life is yours.
Set it down. Walk free.
