If you’ve been around Baguio for long, you’ve surely heard of Narda’s Handwoven Arts and Crafts, founded in 1972 by Narda Capuyan. Her inspiring journey is chronicled in 𝙉𝙖𝙧𝙙𝙖: 𝙁𝙧𝙤𝙢 𝙉𝙪𝙧𝙨𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙩𝙤 𝙒𝙚𝙖𝙫𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙈𝙮 𝘿𝙧𝙚𝙖𝙢𝙨 (2024) by Erlyn Ruth Alcantara, Cynthia Alberto Diaz, Elizabeth Lolarga, Evelyn Domingo-Barker (ed.).

This collection of essays and reflections chronicles the life of Narda Olat-Capuyan, tracing her journey in the Cordillera textile industry through the values that shaped her: family, nature, perseverance, and a deep commitment to her craft. 𝘽𝙖𝙜𝙪𝙞𝙤 𝙈𝙚𝙖𝙡𝙨 𝙏𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙉𝙤𝙪𝙧𝙞𝙨𝙝 (2026) by Judy Cariño-Fangloy offers simple and accessible instructions for preparing heartwarming meals—from home-cooked dishes and fresh food to ancestral recipes and celebration fare—using ingredients and resources readily available to Baguio locals.

Accompanying the recipes are short introductory texts for each chapter, bringing together a larger reflection on local food wisdom: from the fresh ingredients found in the city’s public market, to recipes passed down through generations, and to the mindful process of preparing and cooking food. Altogether, they create delicious meals that nourish the body, mind, and spirit.

On this day, 117 years ago, Baguio City was established as a chartered city. As the Americans developed Baguio into a “modern mountain city,” they envisioned a place that would remind them of home.

But Baguio was—and is—more than the city they imagined. Over the decades, it grew into a place of its own, shaped by its indigenous roots, diverse communities, and the many cultures that have called the City of Pines home.

These last two months have been quite a ride! 🌧️☔️ But we’re grateful that, in between the rains, we found a few precious sunny days to gather, connect, and brave the weather together at the events we held this July and August. 🌤️🩷

We shared books and stories on healing—stories that reminded us how healing can be both deeply personal and wonderfully collective. We also opened a new chapter with the return of our community open mic, now happening every fifth Saturday of the month. For this August we celebrated the many languages, voices, and stories of the Cordillera.

And, of course, we turned 16 this August! 🎂🎉 To celebrate, we held a sale on our Eklektikos titles, hosted our annual book hunt, and launched our newsletter on Substack! Check it out at mtcloudbookshop.substack.com.

Thank you for being part of these 16 years with us—for reading, listening, sharing, showing up, and growing alongside us. We hope to see more of you in the coming months, with more stories to share, more books to love, and hopefully, kinder skies ahead. ☀️☁️
