The phrase "Once Saved, Always Saved" (OSAS) is widely considered to become a dangerous or false doctrine when it is taught, preached, or interpreted as a "license to sin" rather than an assurance of security based on a transformed life. When misused, it creates a false sense of security that downplays the necessity of repentance, holiness, and ongoing obedience to God.(By Vlad Savchuk/May 11, 2022)
As I dig further, the HOLY BIBLE does not contain the exact phrase "ONCE SAVED, ALWAYS SAVED," but I am convinced that this applies to GENUINE BELIEVERS, MEANING FOR THOSE WHO TRUELY BELIEVED JESUS CHRIST in John 3:16, the seven statement of who JESUS is; "I am the bread of life" (John 6:35),"I am the light of the world" (John 8:12), "I am the door/gate" ( John 10:7), " I am the good shepherd" (John 10:11), " I am the resurrection and the life" (John 11:25), "I am the way, the truth, and the life" (John14:6), and " I am the true vine" (John 15:1) and there are more other verses in the Holy Bible promising eternal security, such as John 10:27-29, Romans 8:30,38-39, Philippians 1:6, John 10:27-28, Ephesians 1:13-14, 1 John 5:13, etc.
"ONCE SAVED, ALWAYS SAVED," does not give us the passport to keep sinning because we believers should actively persevere and continue in the faith otherwise we will be facing consequences; Hebrews 6: 4-6 NIV, Hebrews 10: 26 If we deliberately keep on sinning after we have received the knowledge of the truth, no sacrifice for sins is left, 27 but only a fearful expectation of judgment and of raging fire that will consume the enemies of God. James 2:17, 26 NIV 17 In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.26 As the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without deeds is dead.
WE HAVE TO BE FAITHFUL, Mathew 24:13 but the one who stands firm to the end will be saved. ROMANS 11:22 Consider therefore the kindness and sternness of God: sternness to those who fell, but kindness to you, provided that you continue in his kindness. Otherwise, you also will be cut off. Hebrews 10:36 You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what he has promised.
John 10:27-29 NIV
27 My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. 28 I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one will sn**ch them out of my hand. 29 My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all[c]; no one can sn**ch them out of my Father’s hand.
Romans 8: 30,38-39 NIV
30 And those he predestined, he also called; those he called, he also justified; those he justified, he also glorified.
38 For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons,[k] neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, 39 neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.)
Philippians 1:6 NIV
6 being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.
1 John 5: 13 NIV
13 I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life.
WARNING
Hebrews 6: 4-6 NIV 4 It is impossible for those who have once been enlightened, who have tasted the heavenly gift, who have shared in the Holy Spirit, 5 who have tasted the goodness of the word of God and the powers of the coming age 6 and who have fallen[c] away, to be brought back to repentance. To their loss they are crucifying the Son of God all over again and subjecting him to public disgrace.
Hebrews 10: 26 If we deliberately keep on sinning after we have received the knowledge of the truth, no sacrifice for sins is left, 27 but only a fearful expectation of judgment and of raging fire that will consume the enemies of God.
1 John 2: 19 They went out from us, but they did not really belong to us. For if they had belonged to us, they would have remained with us; but their going showed that none of them belonged to us.
2 PETER 2:20 If they have escaped the corruption of the world by knowing our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and are again entangled in it and are overcome, they are worse off at the end than they were at the beginning. 21 It would have been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than to have known it and then to turn their backs on the sacred command that was passed on to them. 22 Of them the proverbs are true: “A dog returns to its vomit,”[g] and, “A sow that is washed returns to her wallowing in the mud.”
ROMANS 11:22 Consider therefore the kindness and sternness of God: sternness to those who fell, but kindness to you, provided that you continue in his kindness. Otherwise, you also will be cut off.
REVELATION 2:10 Be faithful, even to the point of death, and I will give you life as your victor’s crown.
HEBREWS 3:14 We have come to share in Christ, if indeed we hold our original conviction firmly to the very end.
PHILIPPIANS 2:12 Therefore, my dear friends, as you have always obeyed—not only in my presence, but now much more in my absence—continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling, 13 for it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill his good purpose.
1 CORINTHIANS 9: 26 Therefore I do not run like someone running aimlessly; I do not fight like a boxer beating the air. 27 No, I strike a blow to my body and make it my slave so that after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified for the prize.
