THE PSYCHOLOGY OF OFFICE POWER GAMES

Not all office conflicts are openly visible. Some are silent power games hidden behind meetings, memos, groupings, delayed actions, selective communication, and subtle competition.

In many workplaces, people do not only work for salaries or positions. Some quietly compete for influence, recognition, access to leadership, control of information, or dominance over others. This is where office power games begin.

Common signs usually include:

• Credit grabbing
• Information hoarding
• Strategic favoritism
• Silent undermining of co-workers
• Forming office alliances or factions
• Pretending cooperation while competing internally
• Using authority, closeness, or connections as leverage

The problem with office power games is that they slowly drain trust inside an organization. Employees become guarded, political, emotionally exhausted, and less focused on actual performance. Energy is wasted on internal tension instead of productivity and service.

Strong organizations are not built on manipulation and fear. They are built on professionalism, competence, emotional maturity, and trust.

Because in the long run, people may temporarily win office politics — but they eventually lose respect.

Nakaka-sad🥹

The Sierra Madre, widely recognized as the Philippines’ primary natural barrier against typhoons and flooding, has lost approximately 9,000 hectares of forest between 2003 and 2020, an area nearly equivalent to 6,000 football fields. Satellite monitoring and environmental assessments link this decline to illegal logging and large scale mining operations that have penetrated deep into the mountain range. These activities have disrupted watershed systems, accelerated soil erosion, and placed increasing pressure on biodiversity, threatening endemic species that rely on the region’s forest ecosystems. Despite sections of the Sierra Madre being designated as protected areas, the continued issuance of permits and environmental compliance certificates has allowed extractive industries to operate within or near these zones.

Experts in Environmental Science and advocacy groups are calling for structural reforms that prioritize long term ecological stability over short term economic gain. Key recommendations include stricter enforcement of forestry and mining regulations, closing policy loopholes, and empowering local communities through sustainable forest governance. As Climate Change intensifies storm systems and alters rainfall distribution, the degradation of the Sierra Madre poses a growing national risk. Protecting this mountain range is not only critical for conserving biodiversity but also for stabilizing watersheds and safeguarding millions of Filipinos who depend on it as a vital line of defense.
