I was just playing with one of our giant Australian Redclaw Crayfish using a ruler, but he clearly wasn’t in the mood.πŸ˜…πŸ“

Since crayfish are mostly nocturnal, daytime is usually their time to rest. So when I disturbed his sleep, he made sure to let me know by repeatedly trying to grab the ruler with those big claws! πŸ‘€πŸ”₯

Can’t really blame himβ€”I’d probably be grumpy too if someone woke me up in the middle of my sleep. 🀣

One thing’s for sure: these crayfish have a lot more personality than most people expect!

What does that mean?
A spermatophore is a white packet left by the male during mating. It’s one of the first signs that successful breeding has taken place and that the female may soon produce eggs. πŸ₯šπŸ”₯ We’re not seeing eggs just yet, but this is a big step toward having a berried female and, hopefully, hundreds of healthy craylings in the future! πŸ¦žπŸ’™
