I've been eyeing this book for the longest time but kept resisting because my TBR is already overflowing. 😬 But yesterday at Fully Booked Abreeza, I finally gave in and brought it home.

Now, I’m obsessed with every page. So much wisdom, life lessons, and little reminders that feel like they’re meant for all of us. 🌸 I’ll be sharing some of my favorite pages soon! (shared one yesterday thru my story) 🫶

After my check-up today, I couldn’t resist stopping by the bookshop and yes, I bought a book too (even after promising to finish my eight remaining TBRs first!).

I also spotted the Book Recommendations & Reviews stand and asked if I could leave mine. The staff happily gave me not one, but three cards! 🥹 So happy to finally share my love for books beyond social media and into a physical bookshop. 🫶

The Calico Cat at the Chibineko Kitchen

This is the second book in the Remembrance Meals series, and just like the first one, it has that simple, gentle, and laid-back storytelling that I really enjoyed. ☺️

The book consists of four short stories, each following characters who visit their departed loved ones through the Chibineko Kitchen, owned by Kai with Chibi, the resident cat. Despite how quickly each story unfolds, the emotions never feel rushed to me. Each one carries its own depth, warmth, and little lessons that we can all learn from. 🌸

What I especially love is how every story left me with a sense of relief and inspiration. There’s something comforting about reading stories that remind us that life is fleeting, but the memories we create and share with our loved ones teach us to truly appreciate its beauty and value. 🫶

If you’re a fan of Before the Coffee Gets Cold, The Lantern of Lost Memories, or stories with that same cozy, bittersweet, magical-realism feel, I think you’ll enjoy this one too. Definitely give it a try! 🤗

The Amberglow Candy Store ✨

Finished this book in just two days during my spare time. Does that make me a fast reader? Not really. 😅 It simply has fewer than 200 pages, with each chapter telling a short, self-contained story.

One thing I truly admired about this book is how direct and straightforward the writing is. It's easy to follow coz what you read is exactly what you get, and somehow, that's part of its charm. 🙌

At the heart of the story is Kugetso, the proprietor of the Amberglow Candy Store, a magical little shop hidden in a place where only troubled humans occasionally find themselves. Inside, he offers different kinds of wagashi, each thoughtfully named and carrying a quiet purpose, to answer the silent prayers people are too afraid to speak aloud. 🤭

The stories are brief and simple, but they're filled with timeless wisdom, gentle life lessons, and reminders that resonate no matter your age. I also loved how unpredictable the stories were. Just when I thought I knew where they were headed, they'd surprise me in the sweetest ways. It's the kind of book that quietly keeps you turning the pages. 😉

And of course, keep an eye out for Kugetso's own story at the end. It was the perfect way to close this cozy read. 💛

Btw, I’m changing the way I rate the books I read. Instead of always hoping to find that “perfect” 5-star book someday, I’m giving 5 stars to the books that truly move me and leave a lasting impact. 🥹

So, here’s my first-ever 5-star read! 💫

If I could rerate all my previous reads, I’d probably have a lot more 5s. 😂 So if you see any of my previous books rated 4.25 stars and above, just know that they’re actually 5 stars for me. 🥹🫶

Another update on my "Finished" fable stack after a few months of rest. 🫶

I was so excited to read the sixth installment of Before the Coffee Gets Cold. I've been searching for a paperback copy, but since none were available, I ended up getting the hardcover just so I could dive into it right away and it was still worth it. 🥹

I especially loved that this installment gave us a glimpse into Kazu's story alongside the four short stories. One thing I truly admire about this series is how consistent it has remained in its tone, writing, and its unique way of weaving magical realism into ordinary lives by creating unconventional opportunities to revisit loved ones from the past or even the future.

I genuinely enjoyed this book, though I felt the fourth story was a bit rushed compared to the others. Even so, the emotions and overall message remained just as heartfelt and impactful. 🥹

I'd definitely recommend Before the Coffee Gets Cold series to anyone who enjoys simple and quiet storytelling. These books remind us to cherish the people and moments we often take for granted. 💛

In celebration of International Cat Day and Book Lovers Day, I finally decided to dive into Yuta Takahashi’s second book, The Calico Cat at the Chibineko Kitchen. 🐈📖

Just like the first book, The Curious Kitten at the Chibineko Kitchen, I’m going into this one without much expectation. I remember reading the first book last November 2025 and being so pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed it. I even finished it in one sitting. That’s how unexpectedly it drew me in. 🥹

So this time, I’ll simply let myself enjoy the story, get lost in its pages, and see where it takes me. 🫶

Life is truly unpredictable, yet so incredibly beautiful. Sometimes it brings us things we never wished for, but exactly what we needed. It introduces us to people who lift us up, inspire us, and leave a lasting mark on our lives. For me, that beautiful surprise came in the form of you, my dear friend, Sonoko Obuchi. 🌸

It all started when I came across your post about your newly released kindle book back in April. I'm so grateful I decided to read Hibi A Crack almost immediately after that. Your book, your story, and your journey inspired me more than you know. 🥹

This book took me 3 months to finish, not because it wasn't good, but because I ended up side-questing into a different hobby for a while. 🫣

I started reading this back in May, and I still remember how much I cherished every page. I annotated so much I ran out of tabs. I only got through the first two chapters then, but even that felt like such a beautiful experience. Fast forward to August, I finally found my way back to the book and finished this heartwarming story of souls fulfilling their final wish, which is ordering one last pastry for the people they love before moving on to the afterlife.

As someone who's a huge K-drama fan, this felt like watching one of my favorite healing fantasy series. It reminded me so much of The Mystic Pop-up Bar, Phantom Lawyer, and Oh My Ghost Clients, stories that comfort you while quietly breaking your heart. I honestly wanted more.

Each chapter tells the story of a different soul, and every farewell carries its own warmth, grief, love, and hope. I found myself looking forward to every visit to the pastry shop, and as always, the protagonist's story delivered the most satisfying twist in the end. There's also a little hint of romance woven throughout the story, just enough to make me cringeee grrr haha, without taking away from its heart. 😂

Overall, this was such a gentle, comforting, and inspiring read. It reminds us that even goodbyes can be filled with love, and that the people we cherish never truly leave us. 🫶

If you're a fan of healing fiction, magical realism, or K-dramas with afterlife themes, I can't recommend this enough. 💛
