Scrap Stitches & Stories

Directions

Scrap Stitches & Stories here to create meaning+purpose. a pop-up handcraft store in Davao City. Got a request? Please send a message!

We work with unwanted leftovers and scraps— yarns, threads, fabric and embellish from old clothes and unwanted broken accessories using techniques such as crochet, knitting and hand weaving. Your support is important to us to help keep us creating useful things made from reused, repurposed or rescued materials. Each product you find in shop can only be produced in very limited quantity of 1 or 2 depending on the materials we can source locally. If you liked a design, we can only reproduce them in different color with a different embellish.

Tugbok District, Davao City (December 19, 2021)— We are ending the year with a joyful celebration through community service.

It’s our first community workshop in participation with Dream Care Charity Center Group.

Kids ages 5 to 12 had a fun day playing with scrap threads in cheerful colors and varied texture as they learn the ancient, traditional Japanese artform of making braids and cords known as “Kumihimo” technique.

Kumihimo means gathered threads and they gathered seven colorful strands of scrap yarns and ribbons to weave them into strong, slender and intricately designed friendship bracelets using a kumihimo wheel made of old milk boxes.

And what a beautiful sight to watch little weavers play with colors and learn to design their own patterns. What’s more inspiring is to witness how little humans put extra effort to create a special handcrafted gift that they wrapped around a friend’s wrist at the end of the workshop.

It’s a beautiful experience to end the year that brings hope for a promising 2022!
