The Davao City Government is preparing to launch the Atong Taga-an og Oportunidad ang Nangandoy nga Atleta (ATO NA) Athletes' Scholarship Program, which will offer around 150 scholarship slots for deserving student-athletes.
According to the Sports Development Division of the City Mayor's Office (SDD-CMO), the proposed program includes 50 full scholarship slots and more than 100 partial scholarship slots.
Under the full scholarship, qualified recipients will receive β±25,000, consisting of β±20,000 for tuition assistance and β±5,000 for sports equipment.
Meanwhile, partial scholarship recipients in Junior High School and Senior High School will receive β±5,000 annually, while college students under the program will receive β±5,000 per semester.
The city government said the program aims to help student-athletes continue their education while pursuing excellence in sports.
To qualify, applicants must have been residents of Davao City for at least three years, be enrolled in DepEd, CHED, ALS, or TESDA-recognized institutions within the city, and must have represented Davao City in national or international sports competitions.
City officials also clarified that no specific sport will be prioritized, as long as applicants have demonstrated outstanding athletic achievements while representing the city.
According to the Sports Development Division, the scholarship program is currently being finalized in coordination with the city's Educational Benefit System Unit (EBSU), with implementation expected to begin by September 2026.
