Established in 1977, Jing's Lutong Bahay began as a humble diner in the University of the Philippines Diliman and has since become a cultural staple, serving delicious and affordable dishes to students who craved a warm atmosphere and a comforting taste of home between classes.
But after five decades of operation, Lutong Bahay has announced that it will cease operations on October 14.
"No one imagined this karinderia will grow into a 52-year old landmark in UP Diliman. How far it has come to help so many lives; how much we've experienced," read Lutong Bahay's post.
They cited challenges in the past year, prompting them to scale back their operations. Lutong Bahay assured everyone that this is not the end. Their crowd favorites will also remain available until the last day.
"In behalf of everyone who was part of the LB family, we thank you for making us part of your pahinga, celebrations and all those in between. We've built so many good memories over the years, and we only want to leave you with happy thoughts," Jing's Lutong Bahay said.
Many Pinoys were moved by Lutong Bahay's post, reminiscing about their cherished experiences of dining there.
"Yung combo meal niyo po na tig-35 pesos ang bumuhay sa akin nung freshman ako, dahil pinagkakasya ko ang 100 pesos na food budget per day. Maraming salamat Lutong Bahay," one Facebook user commented.
"Wala na akong mapagbibilihan ng paborito kong mango graham shake. Thank you for your service and the good memories," another netizen said.
