Before the day ends, we would like to salute to all teachers out there — whether your schools are at home, or in buildings, we all play a valuable role in our learner's lives. Here are some words of inspiration from our favorite educator, to whom we owe a lot of our book selections — Charlotte Mason.

Happy teachers' day! You deserve all the flowers and more! 👩‍🏫

Thank you for joining last night's SBC 6200 🌅 Dumaguete session! 🫶 It was a good mix of half OG and half first time attendees. We enjoyed reading and not being so silent (gasp!) together. 📚

See you again on Oct 28 and Nov 25, 6pm! We post the sign-ups a few weeks before. But if you miss it, just show up and we'll make room.

🎉 Congratulations on the launch of Historical Ruminations by Dr. Justin Jose A. Bulado, a project of Duma.Alt.Press, and published by Central Books.

"...we get a young historian's ruminations on the nature and importance of history and historiography, taking note that the latter is both a painstaking craft but also an academic discipline with an eye for the truthful chronicling, with important ramifications for the story of the local and the national." - Duma.Alt.Press

📚 HISTORY IS EVERYWHERE 📜
DAY 1 RECAP🍃

On Negros history, we learned that a lot of historical materials are not stored in the island. Our ancestors also hardly left any written records, as their materials have degraded over time. We are then inspired to write as a means of remembering. "By writing, you are already participating in making history, with a heart." - Pippo Carmona

When we revisit the past, we must seek foremost the truth. The 1975 book A Past Revisited, which was launched (50th Anniversary edition), does that by giving us an honest narrative about what our ancestors really lived through, from the precolonial to early 20th century period. We must use history not just as a lens into the past, but as a means to understand our present. Then we can understand ourselves. History is everywhere, if we dare to look.

A few years back, we had the honor of having National Artist for Literature Resil B. Mojares as one of our panelists in Duma LitFest. One of those mornings, he came to the bookshop by himself, unannounced, not expecting any fanfare. We were not yet open, and we were busy preparing for the event. Maybe he just longed for the company of books, as one does. 📚

Grateful to have shared our space with you sir Resil.
We mourn your passing and send our deepest condolences to your loved ones.🥀

Your work will live on in our shelves.
