For a Pinoy, my nose is huge.
Oh my gosh, especially when I was a kid.
Because I was small and my nose grew gigantic, it looked like a grand piano hanging on my face.
There were other parts of my body that I didn't like.
I was as thin as a toothpick.
If the wind was extra strong, I had to hold on to something or else I fly to the next town.
I was chicken breasted, so my chest was extra bony. My very kind classmates called me an alien.
It didn't help that when I hit puberty, I had more pimples than the over-population in Metro Manila.
I was ugly.
I felt grotesque.
You know how bad my acne was?
New pimples were growing on my old pimples.
Reason: Every square inch of real estate space on my face was already occupied by a pimple, so the old tenants subleased one bedroom thru Airbnb to the new pimples.
Compared to my friends whose skin was as smooth as a baby, I felt I had the skin of a frog.
Today, I laugh at that crazy difficult season of my growing up years.
Now that I'm Semi-Old, I've realized 4 things:
First, the world is lying to you.
What makes you beautiful is not your looks, but your kindness, your selflessness, your patience...
Second, your body is already beautiful, made in God's image. Reject definitions of beauty dictated by the media around you. You are amazing and fabulous and phenomenal.
Third, aim to be healthy. That is 100x more important than looking pretty.
Fourth, work on your inner beauty. Your attitude towards life. Your gratitude. Your peace. Your joy. Your humility. Your love. Your body may waste away, but inner beauty will last forever.😊
