Philippine Birds & Mammals by Dioscoro S. Rabor serves as an authoritative wildlife reference guide, developed by the UP Science Education Center to support biology educators and students. The avian section details more than 100 species, providing their English, scientific, Tagalog, and Bisayan names alongside comprehensive data on their sizes, diets, nesting behaviors, breeding cycles, and general traits. The mammalian section classifies animals by order and family, adhering to the taxonomic system established by Dr. G. G. Simpson. As one of the most prominent 20th-century Filipino zoologists, Rabor graduated from UP in 1932 before securing a Fulbright Research Fellowship at the Chicago Natural History Museum. He was also a two-time J. Simon Guggenheim Fellow (1950–1951 and 1957–1958). His extensive research in ornithology and mammalogy was frequently featured in prestigious publications like the Philippine Journal of Science, The Condor, and the Proceedings of the California Academy of Sciences. When this book was published, he was serving as a visiting professor of wildlife biology at the UP College of Forestry in Los Baños.In the book's foreword, Jesus B.
