VISAYAN HERITAGE IN STORIES

"The stories of a people are among their greatest historical treasures. These two titles preserve the folklore, myths, legends, and oral traditions of Western Visayas—offering readers a deeper understanding of the region's history, beliefs, and cultural identity."

⭐ Collector's Note

Regional Filipiniana has become increasingly sought after by collectors, educators, and researchers because many local publications have relatively small print runs and limited distribution outside their home provinces. Books documenting folklore and oral traditions are especially valued, as they preserve cultural narratives that might otherwise be lost.

FILIPINO HERITAGE: THE MAKING OF A NATION
Complete 10-Volume Set
Lahing Pilipino Publishing, 1977/1978
First Edition Printing

For the serious Filipiniana collector, this is the definitive acquisition. This 1977/1978 printing is the original release of the landmark 10-volume set, Filipino Heritage: The Making of a Nation. While these were originally sold via exclusive subscription in the late 70s, finding a "Matched Set" in this display-only condition is a rare occurrence in the secondary market.

Condition Assessment:

• Complete 10/10 volumes
• Original dust jackets present on all volumes
• Original clear protective plastic covers retained
• Bindings tight; volumes appear unread
• Pages bright and clean
• No mildew, no water damage
• No spine sun fading
• Corners sharp and square
• Minor foxing due to age and typical of 70's paper stock
• Interior pages free from insect bites and no water stains

Overall condition: Near Fine, with minor edge foxing typical of 1977 paper stock.

This set is family owned and was preserved as a display copy and shows none of the structural fatigue common in circulated household sets. Never been used or read. Spines are straight, jackets clean, and interiors crisp.

Market Context:

While widely distributed during its original subscription release, complete sets in this preserved condition — with jackets and original protective covers intact — are increasingly difficult to source in the Philippine secondary market. Most surviving sets exhibit heavy wear, sun fading, or mildew deterioration. This set does not.

Ideal for:

• Filipiniana collectors
• Executive office display
• Law firms, heritage institutions, corporate libraries
• Interior designers staging heritage-themed spaces
• Long-term cultural preservation collections

Title : LA GUERRA DE FILIFINAS 1886 - 1898. {SOLD}

This is an issue of Desperta Ferro, a prestigious journal of military history, dealing with the beginning and end of the Philippine War from 1886 to 1898. It includes maps, photographs, and illustrations. Pages that are glossy. In full color.
With eight articles written by Historians.

FROM THE SPANISH TRANSLATION :

On July 23, 1896, Andrés Bonifacio proclaimed, in what became known as the Balintawak cry, the beginning of the Philippine insurrection against the Spanish colonial power. The rebellion did not arise from remote places, but from Manila and its surrounding territories, at the hands of enlightened men, such as José Rizal, and petty officials, such as Andrés Bonifacio and Emilio Aguinaldo. Throughout these pages we will explain how it spread to put Governor Blanco in check, what the Katipunan was and who formed it, how Governor Polavieja took the offensive to defeat an enemy that was determined, capable of building immense field fortifications that often had to be taken by means of the cold steel of bayonets, and how Governor Primo de Rivera, the third in twelve months, would put an end to this first phase of the Philippine War. A deceitful end and a peace agreement that would soon be frustrated and that would engender an even worse war that would end up alienating the archipelago from the hands of both contenders, Spanish and Filipinos, in the heat of the recent US imperial ambition unleashed with the War of Cuba. ."
