Washburn Ta**us 5 string bass

Starting off the first guitar of the year of 2026 with this!

I will post guitars that captures me, not in value but in its rarity, facts and trivias, features and story.

This here is a Washburn ta**us 5 string bass.

Didnt know it existed at first since i only knew washburn from my generic string supplier and their electric guitars.

It has ABT pickups which i didnt know where they are from, but they sound good on GR7.

The bass feels premium from head down to its strap pin. It gives me a feeling similar to playing a strat or an ergo superstrat like the Ibanez AZ(but equivalent to basses), which it welcomes its user due to its body shape. I can reach higher frets with ease due to the lower horn being short and its neck through construction.

Despite its premium feel, the nut is made out of hollow plastic which wore out quickly, making it buzz on open plucking on all the strings. Replaced it with bone. Bone is denser and harder than plastic so i estimate that it could last the owner throughout his whole ownership of the bass till he dispose or sell it.

The guitar is showing it's age with clear coat seperating from the body, stains that couldnt be removed and some discoloration and glossiness on it's satin-like finish. It adds character and authenticity that this bass is being used, and used well.

Think i have nothing else to say but overall, i could recommend owning this exact model if youre in the market or if you could find one of these and youre itching to satisfy your Gear Aquisition Syndrome (G.A.S.)

What it needed: eliminate higher fret buzzing, change strings, replace nut and other maintenance.

What i did: basic setup package + nut installation and bone upgrade

Epiphone EJ all done and dusted!

Apparently, the original ivory saddle of this EJ was swept away by the owner's previous "trusted' technician causing it to buzz since it was replaced by a generic looking plastic saddle.

I urge new tech or old tech/luthiers alike to stop this. Stop stealing from your customers and replacing them with cheap parts just to either gain profit or use these said stolen parts on your own guitars.

Ive been servicing guitars for almost 7 years now and a portion of those customers are either backjobs from other techs that didnt do their job properly or those who've been wronged by these people.

Always uphold trust and integrity, and treat your work like its your passion project and not some easy bucks that you can get away with especially with beginners who we should teach rather than take advantage.

Yun lang guys, may this guitar serve its owner well.
