What a delight to see some of the works of the Mexican artist Rufino Tamayo at Museo Tamayo.

Some lessons learned here as we continue with our mission in Bikoland. Inspired and motivated, we will continue charting programs and engagements that will work for our communities in the region.

Mexico City is home to some of the most interesting bookshops and independent cultural spaces, and we celebrate our solidarity with these places.

Here is U-Tópicas—a space led by women, with sections devoted to children’s books, crafts and handmade work, and spaces for reading, conversation, and performance.

While Bikol celebrates the Feast of Peñafrancia with its usual fervor and devotion, poet, translator, and filmmaker Kristian Sendon Cordero will lead a poetry reading and meditation on the Virgin, the tree, the serpent, and the river at Casa Marie José y Octavio Paz in Mexico City.

Círculo de Poesía and its first Filipino poet, Kristian Sendin Cordero.

More than 100 books, united by a clean and distinctive design, each cover marked by a particular object. Círculo de Poesía has become an important current connecting poets, languages, and literary traditions through translation.

Carried forward by poets and editors like Mario Bojórquez and Roberto Amézquita, this is the kind of literary exchange that inspires Savage Mind.
Bikol poetry now enters this current. We are inspired.

SAVAGE MIND x CIRCULO de POESIA

Today we arrived in Coyoacán, one of the oldest and most historically layered parts of Mexico City—a place that existed long before the Spanish city, and which briefly became the first capital of the viceroyalty after the fall of Tenochtitlan. Its old plazas, churches, streets, and houses still carry traces of those many histories.

Thank you to the poets and editors of Círculo de Poesía, Mario Bojórquez and Roberto Amézquita, both poets, essayists, and translators, and tireless advocates for poetry from across the world since 2014.

We talked about our next collaborations, including the possibility of bringing more Bikol poetry into Spanish. Among the poets we hope to feature are Gualberto Cea Manlagñit, Camilo Torres and Luis Cabalquinto

There is something deeply moving about the thought of Bikol poetry traveling across languages, oceans, and literary traditions, finding new readers here in Mexico—our faraway nearby.
