WHAT TO DO AFTER I RECEIVED A PLANT MAIL???
Sharing my Do's and Dont's when Repotting CnS
6 Steps To DO (After I received my uprooted plants from local sellers e.g. Benguet) Mine is from Tondo, Manila.
1. UNBOXING
After unboxing let your cactus and succulents rest for a while, unwrap and place them in a well ventilated area for them to rest and breathe. (At least OVERNIGHT in upright position. )
2. WASHING
After resting your cactus and succulents it is time to wash them thoroughly, bathe them in running water to remove dirt/soil and possible pests between leaves and roots. (Wash the roots only for the plant exception, see step #3.) For succulents, remove dried and mushy leaves. You can choose to trim the roots, leaving an inch from the base of the stem.
3. SANITIZING (During rainy season this is one of my optional step, pwede ipagpaliban kasi maulan mahirap makatuyo. But make sure once your plants are well established have maintenance spray or apply pesticides/insecticides/fungicides atleast every 2 weeks.)
You can also soak your cactus and succulent in a pesticide solution. It is necessary to kill pests and protect them after repotting, I used Masitera Dithane, 1/2 tsp:2 liters of water.
You may also use Sevin, (1 tsp to 1 liter of water and 2 drops of dishwashing liquid.) Soak them for at least 10 mins to 20 mins. (If sevin is not available, alternate is baking soda add 2tbsp.)
*Use PPE, mask, gloves and eye protection.*
Exceptions are the ff.: (M. Plumosa, Agavoides Sp., Kalanchoe Tomentosa, Catspaw, Sempervivums Sp., Chinese Jade and other sensitive c&s species)
After ko isoak, hindi ko binabanlawan.
4. AIR DRYING
Air dry your succulents in a well ventilated area and don't expose to direct sunlight. Airdry for 3 to 5 days, to make sure that all open wounds have already healed or cuts have calloused to avoid infection which may cause root rot. Let them recover. You may place them in empty clean pots in upright position to avoid deforming of the thorns and rosettes.
