Rising Costs and the Strain on Local Agriculture

The agricultural sector today faces a storm of challenges: high importation levels, inflationary pressures, soaring fuel costs, and unprecedented increases in fertilizer and other essential inputs.

As farmers and members of the agricultural industry, it is deeply disheartening to witness how both input and output prices create barriers for those who dedicate their lives to feeding our nation. While higher crop prices may benefit some planters, the reality is that rising production costs (especially fertilizers and farm necessities, erode potential gains). This is why our corporate social responsibility emphasizes regenerative farming: reducing input costs while restoring soil health for long-term sustainability.

Fuel prices, driven higher by geopolitical conflicts in the Middle East, add another layer of burden. The livestock and poultry sectors are equally strained, with feed ingredients becoming prohibitively expensive. Yet farm-gate prices for meat often remain low due to the influx of imported products, forcing local producers to sell below cost and, in many cases, operate at a loss.

The ripple effects are severe. Traders, farmers, and feed mill operators alike are struggling. Many farms have downsized or shut down entirely, unable to compete under current market conditions. The devastation caused by the 2026 Mindanao Earthquake has only compounded these difficulties, damaging infrastructure and further weakening local production capacity.

Importation, when balanced, plays a role in addressing supply gaps. But excessive reliance on imports undermines local producers, discourages investment, and weakens industries vital to our nation’s food sufficiency. Supporting local farmers is not just an economic issue, it is an investment in food security, rural livelihoods, and the sustainability of our agricultural future.

We remain hopeful that these challenges are temporary and will be alleviated sooner than expected. In the meantime, we call for stronger support for local producers, greater emphasis on regenerative practices and policies that prioritize the resilience of Philippine agriculture.

We extend our deepest gratitude to everyone who continues to support donation efforts in their own way. Despite the challenges brought by the recent earthquake, many have shown remarkable compassion, generosity and resilience by helping those most in need.

Support remains critical as many communities still face shortages of basic necessities and access to essential services. Every contribution, “big or small”, can make a meaningful difference in the lives of affected families.

We are committed to raising awareness and connecting willing donors with trusted contacts in Region XII and SOCSARGEN. Together, through the spirit of bayanihan, we can help communities recover, rebuild and emerge stronger from this disaster.
Thank you to all who continue to give, serve, and inspire hope. May kindness and generosity continue to unite us as we support one another on the path to recovery.

Sustainable Farming Practices trough Regenerative Agriculture

Regenerative agriculture is more than just a method, it is a principle-based approach to agricultural land management that actively restores degraded ecosystems. By rebuilding soil health, conserving water, enriching biodiversity and capturing carbon while systematically upcycling agricultural and food wastes, it transforms farming into a powerful force for ecological renewal. The goal is to create a farming system that works in harmony with nature, not against it, building a food system that thrives even in the face of climate change and crisis.

Amid the Iran war, fuel instability and the threat of super El Niño, fertilizer prices have become an unaffordable burden for many farmers. This moment to act inspired us for this call for initiative, an opportunity to return to the basics while embracing modern and holistic agriculture. By harnessing the soil’s natural composition, fostering beneficial microbes, strengthening photosynthesis and activating nature’s own defense mechanisms, we can reduce dependence on costly imported inputs and build resilient pathways toward healthy, natural and sustainable food for the future.
