Nakikiisa ang Pambansang Komisyong Pangkasaysayan ng Pilipinas sa paggunita ng ika-123 anibersaryo ng kabayanihan ni Heneral Gregorio del Pilar.

Matatandaang namatay si Hen. del Pilar habang ipinagtatanggol ang kanilang mga posisyon sa Pasong Tirad sa paglusob ng mga Amerikano na nais dakpin si Pangulong Emilio Aguinaldo.

Bilang paggunita, mag-aalay ng bulaklak ang NHCP Museo ni Marcelo H. del Pilar sa bantayog ni Hen. del Pilar sa pook ng kanyang kapanganakan sa Bulakan, Bulacan.

Taal was a pre-colonial town along the coastal water of Taal lake, present-day San Nicolas Town. In 1754, it was transferred to its current location due to the violent eruption of the Taal volcano. Technically, the town was declared a National Historical Landmark, from being historically significant and retaining her Spanish colonial ambiance through its old houses and churches that are still well preserved after centuries of existence.
It is essential for us to learn about its rich history and the heritage properties that are located inside its declared heritage zone.

In 1945, in Nara, Japan, President Jose P. Laurel dissolved the Second Republic of the Philippines. This came after the August 15 broadcast of Emperor Hirohito, which announced Japan’s acceptance of the terms of the Potsdam Declaration.

In 1986, the Epifanio de los Santos Avenue (EDSA) Revolution began. The clamor for change began when on
February 7, 1986, when the nationwide snap elections were held for the presidency and the newly restored position of vice president. The contenders were the tandem of President Ferdinand E. Marcos and Arturo M. Tolentino of the Kilusang Bagong Lipunan (KBL), versus Corazon C. Aquino, the widowed spouse of assassinated senator Benigno Aquino Jr. and Salvador H. Laurel of the United Nationalist Democratic Organization (UNIDO). Come election time, the Comelec numbers showed President Marcos and Tolentino the winners, a result made official by the KBL dominated Batasang Pambansa. Within two weeks, multitudes of demonstrators filled the vast expanse of EDSA calling for the peaceful ouster of a dictator.

The 1986 EDSA People Power Revolution gathered throngs of people. However, the spirit of their movement did not remain contained in the streets of Manila. Pockets of dissent manifested nationwide, creating a stir in local communities and uniting the nation in the desire to attain freedom. Cebuanos and Davaoeños gathered in their own plazas, packing streets with slogans and singing the anthems of the revolution.

When news of President Marcos leaving the Palace reached Jaro, Iloilo, it was late at night and yet the lights came on and residents made their way toward the Cathedral of Jaro. Suddenly illuminated and with ringing bells to boot, Ruby A. Dumalaog, then a high school student, stood in awe of her town.

“I realized that what was happening at EDSA was also happening in Jaro. Soldiers patrolling the city shook hands with people on the street. People who didn’t know each other were embracing each other and crying. That night, I realized that although the islands in the Philippines are far apart, although we are far away from EDSA, although we were not there to face the tanks, in our hearts we are one, we have one dream and we can be together.”
