For our next edition of Table Portraits, we’re co hosting with ANTHILL and June Eatery.

We’ll slow down and pay attention to what’s on our plates, from the ingredients and textures to the stories behind the dishes, and turn our observations into no-pressure pastel sketches.

Food and art materials are provided. Each guest will also receive an ANTHILL bilao coaster to take home—a little reminder of the gathering and abundance that happen around the Filipino table.

No art experience needed. Just come hungry and ready to create 🩷

Table Portraits doesn’t always happen in restaurants or traditional creative spaces. Sometimes, we bring it to alternative spaces like a law firm.

For this private edition, lawyers, their colleagues, and families gathered around the table for no pressure pastel sketching.

Food played a central role in the experience. We used freshly harvested señorita bananas from Tagaytay as place cards, and throughout the workshop, food became a starting point for observation and drawing.

Food can transform any space into a place to pay attention, create, and connect. 🩷

If our goal is to pay attention, experience food more intentionally, and document our culinary field notes through pastel illustration, it makes sense to learn in places where food is actively prepared and shared.

What happens before food reaches the table?

For this special edition of Table Portraits, we’re stepping away from the dining table and into the field.

Together with chef Isi of Eat Matters, we’ll explore Malabon through a culinary fieldwork experience. Along the way, we’ll meet the people behind the food, discover heritage ingredients, and learn about the dishes and traditions that have shaped the city’s culinary identity.

We’ll turn our observations into visual field notes through pastel illustration.

We’ve been spending a lot of time exploring how our relationships with food, ourselves, and each other evolve around the dining table.

For our first Table Portraits event, we designed a series of tasting and illustration exercises around three dishes from lacarinderia_manila . Participants observed, drew from memory, and reflected on the many ways food shapes our lives.

Thank you to everyone who joined us in exploring different ways of experiencing food.
